I really don't think you understand the difference in conferences. In the East, teams make the playoffs with less than .500 records. You can't do that in the West. Why do you think the Cavs were swept by the Spurs? If the Cavs were in the West, they wouldn't have come close to winning the games they did in any year.

The 7 seed in the West would have been a 3 or 4 seed in the East in any of those years.

Thats a reeruned ****ing arguement, because Kobe and Lebron are tier 1 players, Robert Horry is a tier 3-4 player. He stepped up and hit clutch shots, no doubt about it, but great players have to win one, or they are just as step below. Guys like Magic, Larry, Jordan, Bryant, Kareem, Russell.

Another person who missed the point.

I'll sum it up so there isn't any more confusion. Championships go to the best teams, not the best players.

You're still skirting by the real issue here. None of the Kobe-led Lakers teams would have accomplished more than any of LeBron-led Cavs teams in any season in any conference. Kobe needed Shaq and Gasol to have real success. And when he didn't have anybody else, he recognized his weakness and demanded a trade.

LeBron, on the other hand, routinely led his team to finals appearances and 60+ win seasons without Williams/Ilgauskas as his sidekicks. Why his haters don't give him respect for this, I'm not sure.

But I hate this argument because the people involved in it are just so damn stubborn. It's like it pains them to admit that an asshole like LeBron has incredible talent. I'm a huge Kobe fan, have been since he was a rookie, but he's never had the kind of effect on the game of basketball that LeBron James has had. And when you look at the stats (outside of championships, which are again a team award, and very attributable to Shaq/Gasol), it's really not even that close.

Well to be fair to Phil, when you are banging the owner's daughter and you have Michael Jordan you have had pretty good job security.

I hope the Lakers do that deal...I'd do it in a sec.

Would give them a superstar to build around as Kobe gets older.

Depth in the front court would drastically be cut down but maybe they could get Nene in the deal.

Unlikely.

The depth would be cut down, but they could just use a small lineup with Odom out and put Melo at the 4, which he's been playing some in Denver.

I also dont' think Carmello would sign an extension in LA. This is purely a rental thing designed to clear some money next year.
