Shooting at TDKR Midnight Premiere in Aurora, CO. Multiple dead.

At least 10 moviegoers were killed and 39 injured at a cinema in the Colorado city of Aurora in the Denver suburbs. They were attending a midnight showing of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.

The theater was packed with a lot of people, many of them young fans, at the time the shooting started, 9news reports. The violence erupted some 15 minutes after the movie started, witnesses said.

Some say that when they first heard the shooting, they thought it was some new type of special effect.

Local media reports that two gunmen were involved in the rampage. An explosive device was set off during the shooting, injuring several people.

Witnesses said the gunmen were probably wearing body armor and gas masks and used some kind of a tear gas bomb in the attack.

Some reports say police have apprehended one of the assailants while the second one is still at large.

Police have cleared people from the scene over fears that another explosive device might be on the premises.

Aurora medical services were alerted to attend to the large number of injured

I heard he was walking up the ramp or stairs and firing down each aisle.

I don't think anyone has that position (unless I missed it). Personally, I don't. Would I have like to been armed? Yes.
But it would've been horrible no matter if I lived, if I died, was shot, or he died.
It's still very tragic and very cowardly of him.

Concealed carry could have very well saved several of the victims. The one witness account was from a lady that was laying close enough to him to be hit on the head by his spent cartridges. Had she had a concealed carry firearm she could have easily stopped or slowed him down. In a crowded theater I am sure there was quite a few people close enough to him that would have been able to do something to allow more to escape had they been carrying.

tough call. I probably would have tried to wait it out until he was reloading / pause in gun fire and made a mad dash to an exit - assuming there was one available. Or depending on the distance between me and him, I would make a dahs, and accept the risk of being shot and killed.

Utlimately if would be great if he was close to me and didn't see me; as he's reloading I'd break his GD neck.

A woman who died in the movie theater shooting in Denver had previously escaped a shooting at a mall in Toronto in June, saying an “odd feeling” compelled her to leave the shopping center, she wrote in a blog post about the experience.

Jessica Ghawi had recently moved from San Antonio to Denver, kens5.com reported. An aspiring sportscaster, she had gone to see the movie “Batman: The Dark Knight Rises,” with a friend from Texas who was injured in the shooting, the television station reported.

Ghawi (who wrote under the name Jessica Redfield) said on her blog that she was visiting Toronto in June and stopped by a popular shopping mall to get something to eat when she got an “odd feeling” in her chest.

“This empty, almost sickening feeling won’t go away. I noticed this feeling when I was in the Eaton Center in Toronto just seconds before someone opened fire in the food court,” she wrote in her blog. “An odd feeling which led me to go outside and unknowingly out of harm‘s way. It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around how a weird feeling saved me from being in the middle of a deadly shooting.”......

NBC News confirmed Friday from Ghawi's family that she had died from the overnight rampage. Her brother was flying to Denver Friday morning, her father, Nick Ghawi, told NBC.

On his blog, jordanghawi.com, Jessica's brother Jordan wrote about the moment he heard the news.

"At approximately 0215 CST, I received an hysterical, and almost unintelligible, phone call from my mother stating that my sister, Jessica Ghawi, had been shot while attending the midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Denver, CO. I was able to contact the man that was with my sister, mutual friend Brent Lowak, who stated that they were in the theatre when an incendiary device was fired into the crowd and that shots rang out immediately afterwards. Brent further stated that he took two rounds and that my sister took one round followed by an additional round which appeared to strike her in the head. At this time, I do not have confirmation that she is alive or dead."

Yeah, good point. I didn't know about the hair dye stuff, but he was obviously prepping for this. Reports are coming out now that he had withdrawn from his school as well.

Colleges seem to have to deal with nut cases more than most. I wonder if this guy had hit a point where he was being told the harsh truth that he wasn't as brilliant as he thought, and couldn't handle it.

This guy will probably end up in the Federal Lock Up Hospital in Springfield, MO, same place where Jared Loughner is now.

We do yearly "A.L.I.C.E." training at the school, which is basically intruder training. The current thing we're taught is to fight back with everything we have. Barricade our classrooms, then prepare to knock the **** out of anyone who comes through the door. The students grab up desks, textbooks, anything heavy and get ready to throw it at anyone who comes through the door. In past school shootings (and this is totally different) the cops claim that the killers actually practiced beforehand on shooting prone targets, because they knew school protocol was for students to hide under desks and tables (there's columbine footage that confirms this, I believe).
