Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Carr is a KNOWN good QB...mahomes is the unknown...

Carr got them their first winning season in a decade, and it was a big one...without him breaking his leg , they win the division hands down. Not sure your point here...Carr is a damn good NFL Qb...

I'm happy about Mahomes, but Smith's limitations wasted four years of our time and four years of the careers of some pretty good players.

I'll never say it was a good move, because I'll never believe four years of empty wins with no real upside or threat to win are anything to be excited about.

So only 3 teams, the Patriots, Seahawks, and broncos were successful the past 4 years? None of the other teams won Superbowls, so all their wins were empty right?

Teams like the Packers, Panthers and Falcons had a chance to win bc of their QB.

It's a QB driven league and Alex was only taking us so far

There will be die-hards who absolutely can not fathom that QB's like Smith are obsolete for the upper echelons of playoff performance.
Thankfully, we are now part of a franchise that no longer dwells in territory 10 to 15 years behind the times.

The day Dorsey was hired, I made my call in saying that of the two hires, John Dorsey was the one to be most excited about and I'll be damned if that didn't turn out to be the case.
Having come from a small market team that valued QB play and managed to always be in it by staying on top of trends, I hoped that Dorsey would bring some much needed modernization to the talent acquisition process of the Chiefs.
What I didn't foresee, was how much of a work horse Dorsey is and how thorough his process is.
It's entirely possible that the Chiefs could, in time, replicate the sustained success of franchises like NE and PITT.

Great stuff.

If Mahomes becomes the starter in 2018, there will be a market for him to do the exact same thing for another franchise if he doesn't decide to retire.
John Dorsey, Andy Reid and the coaching staff were the stabilizing factors.

I fully believe this team would have won as much with Chase Daniel, cause he wasn't any heavier than Alex Smith, so the team could have carried that weight just the same.

I'm ****ing thrilled with Mahomes. **** all the other guys they passed up the last couple drafts. Everything that happened lead us to this. The turning point has arrived after four entertaining seasons to stem the tide. The time of the Dark Peniight hath arrived.

Have I missed anyone? I can't be sure. The funny thing is, all but 5 of these guys has less than a couple of hundred posts. The noise all comes from just 4 or 5 guys.
If Alex were to get cut and go to a different team, I wonder which Planeteers would follow him to that team's boards (not including the ones who came over from the 49er boards)...

It's a fair point, but only one aspect. Smith has had more sustained success, and is viewed as a solid starter by most of the League. Kaep was a gadget, backyard baller who quickly shined and quickly fizzled once defenses figured him out.

Both could walk away with relatively fat wallets and smiling ear to ear.. only one can walk away with most saying that he was a legit QB, and an even more impressive player because of the remarkable persistence. I doubt you could legitimately name 5 QBs that had a crappier surrounding in his first 5 years, and still managed to become a winning QB.

meh.. it's a mixed bag over there.. but then again, the WZ was never really my SF home of forums. I still have as many WZ friends there as I do true haters.
