Even if Smith gets an extension, I doubt it will be anywhere near a legitimate "starter" contract, and instead will be around 7 a year for maybe 2 or 3 years at most. Reid isn't the kind of coach to be ok with mediocre QB play, and will only keep Smith around until a better option arises.

It's another way the Smith trade could cost us big. Smith plays average this year but it's contributed to being on a new team, new scheme and new players etc. Next year Smith plays average until the final few games. He has a really good 2 or 3 games to finish the season and everyone talks about how they team has now settled in etc and this is the "real" thing. Alex Smith's contract is now up ... do you really think they can/will not give him a new contract based on those last 2/3 games instead of the rest of the average ones? boom ... 6 years/60 million We as much as we traded for Smith the only way(s) we get a franchise QB is if: 1. Smith is a franchise QB 2. we get lucky with a low round guy (ie Bray etc) either is a long shot imo

Smith should really be in the top ten or so. Jaws has something against the chiefs for some reason.

Las Vegas has the over/under on KC at 6.5 this year. Hooray for spending valuable draft picks to acquire the 20th-rated passer, to accomplish nothing in the short term, and not build for the future. Congratulations, KC!

You would be wise to dump some money on the over.
