Talking Draft Prospects

We've got perhaps the biggest, most consequential draft coming up for this franchise since 2008. The Chiefs have all seven of their picks, and will certainly be picking up an additional four in compensatory picks, one of which is assuredly a 3rd rounder.

As a result, it's important to familiarize ourselves with as much of this draft class as possible. I started a thread last offseason that discussed late rounders that was generally well liked and spurred tons of great conversation on all sorts of draft picks we normally wouldn't talk about, so I'm going to duplicate that idea this year, only discussing all talents, rather than just the mid- and lower-round ones.

The OP will be continually updated to show the talent I'm reviewing by position. Keep in mind as I list these players that I am generally listing their round projections, but it is not a strict big board, as I likely won't have a big board put together until May.

Spoiler!

WR Rashad Greene, Florida State -- There are several reasons I'm more down on Greene than most folks, but let's start from the top. Rashad Greene is probably a slot receiver at the next level, at 5'11", 180 lbs, he evaporates against physical coverage. He's going to need to thicken up for the next level, but when he's running a 4.5 40, it's not clear how much more he can add without losing any speed advantage he barely has to begin with. His hands are excellent, I mean really, really good, although part of that comes with having college football's best QB reliably place the ball for you. Greene does run fairly sharp routes, which he's going to need in order to separate at the next level. He's also not a game breaker -- he's not dynamite with the ball in his hands and he's not making a ton of people miss. You can probably find a spot for Greene in your intermediate passing attack, but he's not fast enough for the deep game and not physical enough to survive on the outside. His biggest advantage is his get-off -- he can get to those intermediate zones as fast as anybody in this draft, but that's a result of his very good quickness, not any elite speed he could possibly have. Ultimately there's too many questions around him, particularly how he'll look when he doesn't have the league's best QB and a vastly superior OL creating time for him. As a slot WR who's only really valuable between the 20s, his importance to me is greatly diminished.

34" is bare minimum for John Dorsey tackles, it would seem, and probably for guards, too.

Anything under 33" is out of consideration for everything, including center. (Kush is over 33".)
What evidence are you using to draw the conclusions about arm-length? I just don't see it.

What are we even doing with one? Dorsey's simply not turned off by them.

Again, there was a piece on it last year. And Dorsey's indisputably a measurements whore.

I don't know what more evidence you need?

Flowers will be high up on the decision lens. Huge guy with long arms and an insane bench number. Perfect day 1 starter at RT.

You want a measurables whore, This is your guy;

30 reps with 34.125" arms
9'4" Broadjump, 1" below leader
30.5" Vert, good for 12th amongst OL, 3" below leader
7.48 three cone, good for 3rd amonst OL, .23 behind the leader

All at 313 pounds.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profil...ing?id=2552240

Ali Marpet also did well, but has just a touch less size.
Fisher smoked both of them.

Another guy to talk about in the later round is Laurence Gibson, who smoked the Vert and Broadjump, leading both events. He also put up a 7.72 three cone. He put up 24 reps with 35.125" arms. 6'6" and 305 pounds.

I'm a fan of Fisher's, but his arms are 33.75" long. That's what they measured at the Combine and that's the number Dorsey's going to use.

Agreed. Matter of fact, I drafted him in my most recent mock.

I can't even cobble together an o-line big board this year, because I like so many so much. If the Chiefs had the entire second round, I think I would spend about 5 picks on the offensive line and 5 picks on WR. That would be nice.

That's really my one dying hope in the Chiefs going anything other than OL in the first round. There are a couple guys that fit us very well at #18, but there's just an embarrassment of riches at the position at the top of the draft this year. It's possible they go something like WR in the first and then just double, triple, or even quadruple dip at OL later on.
