So, Kansas City. . . How does it feel?

As a Texas Tech alum and one who spent three fantastic years in Kansas City (worked downtown, lived in Olathe, enjoyed it all except for the notable lack of quality Mexican food at the time ), my wife and I always enjoyed the "red flood" we saw on fall Fridays when it seemed everyone turned out in Chiefs apparel.

We remember the Price Chopper promotions for the Chiefs, Neal Smith's restaurant, Derrick Thomas' ferocious hits, Marcus Allen's footwork and the abject disappointment of Bono, Grbac and an organization that could get you into the playoffs and then break your heart faster than a frigid prom queen date.

When Mahomes was drafted by Kansas City, I was elated and I quickly found this forum. Don't post much but read often. I, along with a few other Texas Tech alumni familiar with Mahomes, sang his praises here after he was drafted. Much of what we said was accepted on the sheer premise of a fan base so starved for this kind of quality young man that it was taken not so much at face value, but in hope.

Now, after two games into the season, the Chiefs and Kansas City are getting huge national press, Kansas Citians are walking with a bit of the same swagger our Red Raiders did when Mahomes was there, and throughout it all, the young man has not done a single thing to embarrass or disappoint the team, the city or its good people who call it home.

What an incredible ambassador for the team and KC.

It's been a long time in coming, but you've got your quarterback and "face of the future" solidly entrenched.

Feels good, don't it?

Just to keep things consistent, would you mind petitioning your school to change their team to the Texas Tech Red Chiefs? Thanks in advance.

Feels wonderful.... but being a lifelong chiefs fan I’m looking over my shoulder for the impending doom.... the zombie apocalypse may start tomorrow or I might step out in front of a buss before we get our Super Bowl...

Agreed I live in Amarillo - was actually at the Tech game Saturday watching them play.

I have followed the Chiefs for many years, as I have followed the Red Raiders for many years. I was able to watch Patrick play through college in Lubbock and thought back then O how I would like to see Kansas City draft him. Having no idea they would trade up 16 spots to get him I about fell out of my chair that day.

What I find absolutely hilarious is how Andy Reid looks like a kid in a candy store calling plays. I look back to the Denver game last year when Patrick started his first game and remember Andy's post game comments. He said something to the nature of we feel like we can score on every single play. Gone are the days of having an offense that when we have a 3rd and 8 and our QB checks it down to the running back. What an awesome time to be a Chiefs fan - and even more proud that we get to watch a Red Raider flourish.
