Figured I might as well start a little fire on a boring night. Huggins' latest recruit, Tyree Evans, has been accused of statutory rape (he was charged along with a group of guys...a gang rape if you will) and battery of a child. Yes, I know, innocent until proven guilty, and he's probably going to get out of it, but the media and public opinion will still always label him as an "alleged rapist" (it's not right, but that's how it always pans out). That's the first story. The second story was CBS Sportsline columnist Gregg Doyel's list of the 10 worst men's coaching jobs in the nation where he refers to Manhattan, KS as "a suburb of Hades." I'm not gonna lie, Doyel has something against Manhattan and Huggins, and KSU fans hate it that he spews his sentiments in his columns every now and then. I guess you could call him the polar opposite of Kevin Keitzman, who spews his anti-KU sentiments on a daily basis over the radio waves.

Anywho, just wanting to hear some opinions (heh, I came to the right place for that).

KSU will take player if he's cleared
Tyree Evans, one of the top scorers in Virginia high school history, is facing a rape charge in Massachusetts.

As a senior at George Wythe High in Richmond, Va., Tyree Evans scored 884 points, a season total exceeded in the state by only Allen Iverson and Moses Malone.

He scorched Wythe's rival, L.C. Bird, for 51 points. He ripped off 34 second-half points in a state tournament semifinal loss, prompting several college coaches in attendance to shake their heads.

If all goes as Evans plans and he ends up playing for Bob Huggins at Kansas State next season, imagine the reaction then.

Evans, a 6-foot-3 guard, was indicted in September 2005 on charges of statutory rape and indecent assault and battery on a child stemming from an October 2004 incident while he was a postgraduate student at the Winchendon (Mass.) School.

Evans was one of five individuals originally charged in connection to the rape of a female classmate, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges in March. On May 8, his lawyer filed a motion in Worcester Superior Court to dismiss the case. According to the office of Worcester District Attorney John J. Conte, Evans' next court appearance is scheduled for May 30. No trial date has been set.

Evans is confident the case will be thrown out.

If so, he says he'll join Huggins in Manhattan.

Evans originally planned on playing for Huggins at Cincinnati. But his grades were insufficient after graduating from Wythe in 2004, and he enrolled at Winchendon. Cincinnati wouldn't admit him in 2005 while charges were pending.

In the past year, while neither was involved in organized basketball, Evans said Huggins remained in contact.

"He's like a second dad to me," Evans said Monday. "He's been loyal to me, and I've been loyal to him. His word is his bond.... I'm interested. I'll be there in the fall."

The charges, if he's innocent, wouldn't be an issue for K-State, said Jim Epps, senior associate athletic director.

"Whatever he was charged with, if he was found innocent, I don't think we'd say, 'He was charged with a crime but found not guilty, so we're not going to recruit him,' " Epps said. "From our perspective, if he's exonerated, our message to Coach Huggins is to go ahead and recruit the kid."

But there is the issue of perception, whether this will be interpreted as another controversial move by a controversial coach.

As in, there Huggins goes again.

"If we were afraid of public criticism, we wouldn't have hired Bob Huggins," K-State athletic director Tim Weiser said. "I don't think we'd back away from giving a young man or woman a chance if we knew whatever they were involved with before wouldn't be an issue under our care at K-State."

Frank McMillan, Evans' former coach at Wythe, thinks Evans is as good as former Duke star J.J. Redick, who played his high school ball nearby.

"He's probably the best I've ever coached," McMillan said. "With the proper coaching, he'll be as good as anyone."

Mike Byrnes, his coach at Winchendon, believes Evans will make a lot of money in the pros.

"He does not back down from a soul," Byrnes said. "If he goes to K-State, he'll be on the Big 12 All-Rookie Team."

Evans? He compares himself to Chicago Bulls guard Ben Gordon -- but with a slight variation.

"I jump a little higher, and I'm definitely a lot faster," Evans said. "I run a 4.4 40."

Evans flirted with the notion of playing football in college. As a junior, he finished with more than 1,000 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Penn State was interested, and according to McMillan, Florida and Florida State inquired.

He is still intrigued by the possibility, insisting "there ain't no corner around that can check me one-on-one.

"But I just want to see how my freshman year goes."

He seems certain he'll be in Manhattan in September.

"It's going to be dismissed -- that's all I can tell you about that," Evans said. "And when this stuff is over, I'm going to be at K-State.

"I'm going to be playing for Coach Huggins at K-State."

As for Keon Lawrence, he is a much more complete player and scorer than TG right now. He won't show up on any of the top 100 lists because he didn't play AAU ball. However, you just have to see what he did to the top talent he faced in recent all-star games to know that this kid is REALLY GOOD. Also, the word is that Hannah's mom wants him at MU...not KSU. It's not a done deal, but that's the way the wind is blowing today.

A 6-foot-1, 175-pound guard originally from Chicago's Hyde Park High School, Hannah started each of the past two campaigns at Chipola where he led the Indians to a two-year record of 60-7, including a No. 4 finish at the 2005 National Junior College Athletics Association National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., and a No. 1 ranking for a majority of the 2005-06 season.

Ranked among the Top 10 junior college guards by JucoJunction.com and the No. 25 JUCO player overall, the well-rounded Hannah averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 steals to pace Chipola's highly-touted squad and boasted an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.1-to-1.

"I am very excited that Stefhon Hannah is joining our program at Missouri, and he is very excited to be coming here," said Anderson. "The signing of Stefhon is an outstanding way to close out the recruiting period and it gives us added quality and depth in the backcourt. He is a tremendous leader and winner and he does the things that make his teammates around him better. Stefhon is a tenacious player and a very gifted offensive performer. He scored at a high level at both the high school and junior college ranks, and he gives us an experienced player for our roster," he said.

Hannah joins Jonathan "J.T." Tiller (Marietta, Ga.), and transfers DeMarre Carroll (Birmingham, Ala./Vanderbilt) and Darryl Butterfield (Miami, Fla./Mineral Area College) as Mizzou signees during the past week. They will combine with Keon Lawrence (Newark, N.J.) and Vaidatos Volkus (Klaipeda, Lithuania) - who both signed in November during the early period - as Anderson's first class at Mizzou.

An ideal option for Anderson's run-and-execute style of play, Hannah ranked No. 17 nationally at the junior college level with his 6.5 assists per game and No. 11 with his 3.1 steals. He turned in a career-high 13 assists and added 21 points in a win over Gulf Coast Community College and had multiple steals in 20-of-25 games played as a sophomore, including four or more thefts 12 times.

While Hannah's unselfishness and defensive-minded play have made him among the nation's most coveted point guard targets, the 2006 Panhandle Conference Player of the Year flashed his abilities to score on a number of occasions as a sophomore. Hannah scored a career-high 34 points on 18-of-24 free throw shooting in a 110-91 win over Florida Prep and tallied 26 and 25 points, respectively, in wins over Seminole Community College and Northwest Mississippi. Hannah was efficient from the floor in both Chipola wins, hitting 9-of-16 shots, dishing out eight assists and recording four steals vs. Seminole, while hitting 4-of-4 three-pointers and 9-of-13 shots overall en route to that 25-point night vs. Northwest Mississippi. MU better hope that all of these JUCO nothings pan out. Becasue without Gardner, MU wont be able to score which was the case last season when MU averaged around 50 points a game when Gardner wasnt having a good game. It will be fun watching Baylor beat the shit out of MU again this season.

1) MU will be running an entirely different offensive system (if you can call Quin's offense a system)
2) One of the reasons the offense sucked last year was that the other players started expecting Gardner to take all the shots after the kU game and stopped moving off the ball. Then again, movement off the ball was never a strength of a Quin Snyder team
3) The team will be counting on scoring from Keon Lawrence more than any other incoming player. The JUCOs aren't seen as big scorers.
4) Hannah gives them at worst another competant point guard in the rotation, at best an upgrade over Horton in the starting lineup.
5) Butterfield and Volkus will be asked to be role players - play defense, run the floor, fill the lane - not big scorers.

Anderson's system doesn't require superstars ... it requires hard work, tough D and a deep bench. He's building that. And I think he did pretty damn well, considering how late he got the job and entered the fray.

This "system" he runs is a bogus one that relies on pressing the ball, once teams beat the press theres almost always numbers down the court. A good reference of what KU will do to MU this season would be the 2004 NCAA tourney when KU manhandled the infamous "40 minutes of hell defense" coached by Anderson.

MU shouldve went after Huggins or Alford, plain and simple. They will regret from this down the road and Alden will get canned for it. He should get canned anyways because he's a dumbass.

Kansas State: If everything breaks right, Bob Huggins is going to win so big at Kansas State you'll wonder how the Wildcats ever got onto this list. But if everything breaks wrong -- if O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker go to Southern California or just turn pro; and if Michael Beasley and Herb Pope decide not to be traded to Kansas State like pieces of horse flesh -- Huggins will find out just how bad this job really is. He won't show up on any of the top 100 lists because he didn't play AAU ball. However, you just have to see what he did to the top talent he faced in recent all-star games to know that this kid is REALLY GOOD. Also, the word is that Hannah's mom wants him at MU...not KSU. It's not a done deal, but that's the way the wind is blowing today.

A 6-foot-1, 175-pound guard originally from Chicago's Hyde Park High School, Hannah started each of the past two campaigns at Chipola where he led the Indians to a two-year record of 60-7, including a No. 4 finish at the 2005 National Junior College Athletics Association National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., and a No. 1 ranking for a majority of the 2005-06 season. Ranked among the Top 10 junior college guards by JucoJunction.com and the No. 25 JUCO player overall, the well-rounded Hannah averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 steals to pace Chipola's highly-touted squad and boasted an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.1-to-1. "I am very excited that Stefhon Hannah is joining our program at Missouri, and he is very excited to be coming here," said Anderson. "The signing of Stefhon is an outstanding way to close out the recruiting period and it gives us added quality and depth in the backcourt. He is a tremendous leader and winner and he does the things that make his teammates around him better. Stefhon is a tenacious player and a very gifted offensive performer. He scored at a high level at both the high school and junior college ranks, and he gives us an experienced player for our roster," he said. Hannah joins Jonathan "J.T." Tiller (Marietta, Ga.), and transfers DeMarre Carroll (Birmingham, Ala./Vanderbilt) and Darryl Butterfield (Miami, Fla./Mineral Area College) as Mizzou signees during the past week. They will combine with Keon Lawrence (Newark, N.J.) and Vaidatos Volkus (Klaipeda, Lithuania) - who both signed in November during the early period - as Anderson's first class at Mizzou. An ideal option for Anderson's run-and-execute style of play, Hannah ranked No. 17 nationally at the junior college level with his 6.5 assists per game and No. 11 with his 3.1 steals. He turned in a career-high 13 assists and added 21 points in a win over Gulf Coast Community College and had multiple steals in 20-of-25 games played as a sophomore, including four or more thefts 12 times. While Hannah's unselfishness and defensive-minded play have made him among the nation's most coveted point guard targets, the 2006 Panhandle Conference Player of the Year flashed his abilities to score on a number of occasions as a sophomore. Hannah scored a career-high 34 points on 18-of-24 free throw shooting in a 110-91 win over Florida Prep and tallied 26 and 25 points, respectively, in wins over Seminole Community College and Northwest Mississippi. Hannah was efficient from the floor in both Chipola wins, hitting 9-of-16 shots, dishing out eight assists and recording four steals vs. Seminole, while hitting 4-of-4 three-pointers and 9-of-13 shots overall en route to that 25-point night vs. Northwest Mississippi. He also recorded his second double-double of the season in a 21-point, 10-assist effort in a 95-66 win over Pensacola Junior College. As a freshman, Hannah earned First Team All-Panhandle Conference accolades after leading the Indians to a school record 33-4 mark in 2004-05. Aided by current Oklahoma State senior Mario Boggan, Chipola advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson and finished fourth overall. As a rookie, Hannah averaged 10.0 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 boards and 2.8 steals.
