"How" do the Chiefs win?
Okay, so even the most optimistic person on here would have to admit that the Ravens are the better team, at least on paper.
Perhaps, by some strange turn of events, the Chiefs are very talented and have just been grossly under coached over the last two years, but that has yet to be seen. So, the only weakness on the Ravens defense I see is the corners. Only, you have to actually pass protect to take advantage of that. The only weakness on the Ravens offense I see is Flacco. This kid took advantage of a good running game and having very little asked of him. I think he will be a good QB, but not great. I think he was able to catch the NFL off guard a little. I think the NFL will have more of a read on what he can do. Clearly, the Chiefs are not going to run up a ton of points against that defense. I think the offense MUST stay patient and play field position. If the Chiefs can establish the run, even if they aren't just blowing open holes and creating long runs, I think they can take a couple of shots downfield. On defense, the Chiefs need to make the Ravens earn every yard. I think the secondary can get a couple of INT's at the expense of a young QB who may become impatient. He is a big mobile guy, but he also fumbles. The Chiefs have to get a few shots on him and get their hands on the ball. Hey, if the Chiefs offense can keep from making mistakes, and if the defense can force the Ravens into making a couple mistakes... this could be a good game. Either way, I don't 'think' the Ravens cover the spread. Not in their first game. |

I think the whole game depends on Ray Rice and how effective he is.

Rice is very quick if he gets to the outside. however, he has yet to learn to run between the tackles. Rice is used much like Charles is for us. Anytime Rice is in the field, i would watch the flats as Flacco dumped the ball off VERY often in the pre-season if he felt even the slightest pressure.

Unfortunately, my guess is they attack the linebackers with Heap and Rice and try to catch McGraw sleeping on deep balls to Clayton. I'm not sure how the Chiefs come out on offense. They may try to do misdirection that we didn't see in the preseason. Screens and toss/play-action boots, draws, counters. Which I don't know will be all that effective against a defense that (as I recall) essentially sends 4 and drops everyone else back, maybe they can get the linebackers off balance in space. But I think there's also a chance they come out really conservative and try to shorten the game. I just don't know. They were so vanilla in the preseason I don't have any read on them. I would say to win, they have to stop the run, hit Flacco hard early, and pound him the whole game. They need a pick or two. Keep it close and get points every time they have a chance. No missed field goals and any red zone trips have to end in TDs. And we can't turn the ball over. The Chiefs have no margin for error. If they make any real mistakes, they lose. |

Defense.
1. Sack Flac. We have to put that dumbass on the ground. Early and often. If we can shake him up, we can potentially pick up an interception or two. Our offense needs the best field position possible to have a chance to win. I foresee a lot of blitzing. Hali and Mays need to have a good game and, when they get into the backfield, they need to finish. 2. Stop The Run. With our front 3, this isn't necessarily going to be easy. Clancy needs to have some run blitzes ready. Vrable is key. 3. Don't be afraid to play man to man. I think our young DBs can hang with their receivers. Especially if we're getting pressure on the QB. That will help delay Flacco's release and increase the possibility of planting his ass in the dirt. 3. Win Third Down. The defense has to hold their conversion percentage to a minimum. Along with turnovers, probably the most important statistic in this game. 4. Keep It Close. The Chiefs are probably in better physical condition than the Ravens. If we can keep it close into the 4th quarter, we have a chance. Offense. 1. We have to be successful with the run game. With our o-line, the offense absolutely depends on it. No dives, please. Our center's asshole can't take much more of that. If we have a counter play in the book, I'd sure consider it. Run LJ right at the bastards behind Waters and Albert. Then, pull Waters and get the ball to Charles and Savage in space on the right side. Stretches and pitches to those guys. 2. Go Deep. Challenge their defensive backfield. Let's find out how much Samari has left. 3. No Turnovers. We only need one or two of those damn things to lose this game. 4. Make The FGs. This is a game that might well be decided by 1 or 2 points. According to local papers and pre-season, the Ravens are going to try to win the games with Flacco instead of trying not to lose the games with Flacco this year. He also struggles with reading zone coverage. We have to try to confuse him.
Offensively, just don't turn the ball over, and we should have a puncher's chance. |

I might even go out on a limb and say we will have a positive turnover ratio for this game, and if we do, we just might win!

I was at the game yesterday wearing my red and gold, and let me tell you, we quietted 60000+ fans for most of the game. I think (for once), i was right! The stats dont show, but we played a heck of a game. The 500 yards the D gave up is more because they were out on the field for 40 minutes moreso than lack of effort/execution. As mentioned, if Flowers plays, maybe that last TD is knocked down. Maybe if we aren't on the field that whole time, TT has that extra burst to hit Flacco before he releases it. Although it was a loss, it was not the kind of loss we have seen the past two years in my opinion. This team DID not quit, we did not throw in the towel when we QUICKLY went down 10-0. Coaching makes a difference, and i am more than excited about this weeks game versus If anyone has questions about the Ravens' fans and their opinions on us at the game, feel free to ask. |

The problem was defense, like it or not. If they are on the field for 40 plus game minutes, it's also because they couldn't do their job and force the Ravens to punt. We showed some flashes, and DJ came up huge, but nobody expected them to come out with an aerial assault from hell like they did. Flacco showed he's got game. Ravens will be tough this year for anyone who plays them.

Next. At first all the fans could do is talk smack, but as the game went on, they were VERY impressed by the defense, at how we were getting pressure. They commented on the soft zone, but as the game went on, opinions changed. they repeated called LJ washed up, and majority didn't know who D-Bowe was, and I told them, they soon will. (I was not completely right). They pissed all over Brodie before the game started, and I told them if he has time, he is a serviceable QB, to which they laughed. By th end of the game, one of them actually came up to me and said, they were wrong. Wished us good luck, told me that if we played like that all season, we would win some games, to which i thanked him and agreed. They were very shocked at how we were able to move the ball against their vaunted defense. (Yea 150+ yards isn't much, but we DID move the ball in the 3rd and 4th quarters once we made adjustments). They were expecting a BLOWOUT, and they were severly sweating from the 2nd quarter throughout the rest of the game. The local media gave us some credit saying how well prepared we looked and that we were a different team then what was expected. Let me know if there are any other q's, i should probably get some work done now.. |
