I've a 22 /26 year old cousin and wife who named one boy Jude, after "Hey Jude." The older boy sings the song to him. Wife loves Paul McCartney.

So, 33% of kids 4 and under know who Paul McCartney is? Sorry, but bullshit. Somebody is trying to make a point and jacking with the numbers. I know it's against Rainman's SOP, but this poll should probably be public. That would also allow us to blast the "vote for every option" person.

My daughter was surfing YouTube on an iTouch at 20 months. Two weeks ago, at age six, "Santa" gave her an i7 2600k computer with 16 gigs of ram so that she can use Sony Vegas 12 to edit the videos that she creates, capture her Wii U instructional play for her YouTube channel along with a nice recording interface and music creation software so that she can continue writing and recording music.

This kind of stuff seems freaky. When I was a kid, I wonder if my grandparents marveled at how I could dial a telephone or change television stations. I can't really think of what the cutting-edge technologies were back then that a child would have had access to.

Too many tech toys and gadgets before learning to manipulate their physical environment is not that good for them is what I've been reading. I also read for very young ones the screen glow is not good for their developing eyes. I would monitor use. JMO from a few things I've read and it wasn't on any natural organic site it was mainstream and there are various opinions on how to monitor and what. I honestly don't remember the name of the source.

Just they should learn to manipulate 3D objects first or just as much, draw, move things physically, jump, run etc. I remember where I heard some of this now. It was my SIL who works in healthcare and has a young child. I couldn't remember all of it though. I remember that she said it had some effect on the eyes or movement of the eyes .
Internet went down here for a bit when I tried looking for more info that might be available online. Here's a story based on reports from American Academy of Pediatrics. http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2013/1...veloping-body/ |

I agree that there should be a balance when it comes to tech. But I'm not concerned about eyesight because the devices are infinitely easier on the eyes, with LED and LCD screens, as opposed to my generation, who sat 2 feet away from a CRT for 10 years or more. |

I think there will be some variation with some kids staying inside all of the time mesmerized by the screen and not want to go out play and socialize. That's how the kid next door to us turned out. Complete hermit...super techy. Barely socializes. |
