I guess you could try to argue that their early offers seem to be getting 'trumped' by some of these schools putting on a hard press in the final weeks.
Then again, they also seem to have kept Davis precisely because they were on him sooner than others. It's a primacy/recency argument. If you think offering early is going to get you lost in the shuffle, maybe you try to change things up a bit and offer later to put you at the front of their minds. If a kid is waiting on that Mizzou offer and gets it, that might be enough to make you the freshest, hottest name on his mind for a bit. I don't think this lot is lazy. I just think they did a bad job selling the program this time around. Poor execution doesn't necessarily mean poor effort. Hell, failing may not even mean poor execution, it may mean bad strategy. In either event, they clearly need to improve.

Think that critique was fair with the old staff. And unless someone has heard different pretty directly from Jafar Armstrong, his flip was not from a lack of attention of a lack of commitment from Mizzou's end. He got flipped by a blue blood coming in hard, late, a blue blood that is viewed very favorably by people within his HS program.

For those questioning how hard Odom's staff is working on the 18 in-state class: They have all ten of the Top local kids from the KC and STL areas in Columbia today and apparently have made some big impressions, including on prominent St Louis coach Carl Reed.
I don't think they'll get all of those guys - would be a major, major coup - but if they can land 5-6, that's solid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Interesting to note Mizzou is paying their basketball coach > football coach. #SecondarySport

Mizzou lands 4-star defensive lineman for 2017 By Dave Matter St. Louis Post-Dispatch 5 hrs ago (2) The Missouri football team has added a late piece to its defensive line. Akial Byers, a 2017 recruit who initially committed to Alabama, gave the Tigers a pledge late Wednesday. He announced his decision on Twitter after midnight. Byers posted on his account @akial_byers: "First I would like to thank god for this opportunity his (sic) blessed me with. Next I would like to thank my family & coaches that has been by my side throughout the recruitment process. With that said I will be attending the University of Mizzou!" |

Byers, a four-star defensive tackle from Fayetteville, Ark., committed to Alabama in July 2016 but was not expected to qualify academically and instead signed with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Byers has since improved his standardized test score and with a strong finish this semester is on pace to qualify, a source said Thursday. Like any recruit, Byers would have to be cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center to enroll at a Division I program.
