Thank you for posting that, it was about to drive me crazy trying to think of that kids name.
A couple of the engineers I used to work with were very high on his music, and I must admit he is very talented.

John Mayer can run circles around him in the SRV department AND sing his ass off, which is why he's a superstar and Kenny Wayne Shepard has all but been forgotten. If you dig that Austin blues sound, check out Chris Duarte. And if I hadn't mentioned earlier, Gary Clark, jr., who has far more range in his playing and songwriting. |

But his licks to me seem too, IDK, formulaic, I guess, played too straight up. It’s almost sanitary, plain, and blues to me should be more gritty, a bit sloppy even, if that makes any sense.

As you stated, it's very formulaic playing and IMO, boring. |

I am not a huge KWS fan but, there are 3 or 4 songs I really like. He did put out an album several years back that is pretty cool. It is called Ten Days Out: Blues From the Backroads. He traveled down through the south and found several lesser known blues players and recorded their songs with them. There is an accompanying DVD that goes with it that includes interviews with the artists as well as the recording of the songs. I didn't see too many clips on YouTube when I searched him. I will go back and try searching for some of the specific songs and see if I can find a sampling.

There just is not a lot available on YouTube from this album. First up is a clip from DVD talking about the bases for the album. Then into the music itself (what there is to offer).

Saw BB King AND Buddy Guy at a free concert at WWI Memorial back in the day, very chill very moving concert evening.
Also did The Twist WITH Chubby Checker [he called me on stage] as a tot at the same concert series then held at Crown Center.

Awesome! My wife and I saw BB a few years ago at a casino here. Great show. And at the end he brought Steven Seagal(yes, that one)on stage and had him jam. Dude can play some blues guitar.

Saw Damon Fowler last night. He is a local blues guy that does original music. He travels around the country. He was in Topeka and KC in April. He can shred on his guitar. Amazing to watch. Listening to damn good blues live is such a fun time.

We had a nice Blues revival in Texarkana 6 years ago. There was a jam pretty much every week. It finally died down and the only Blues band that came of it picked a lead singer that could not carry a tune in a bucket. Painful.
