LNBS: how old were you when you first fell in love?

I'm 36 and have told 4 or 5 women that I loved them in the past, but that was mostly a "I love you, too" kinda thing and it followed a good ****ing most of the time. I had never been the one to say it first because until it was said to me, I never really felt I was in love with any of them. With each of them I tried to fall in love and it never worked out. Each time I had to end it because the feelings weren't ever mutual and I didn't feel it was fair to either of us to continue. There was always something missing.

That changed a couple weeks ago. I've been seeing this gal for about 5 months now and it's been unbelievable. We click on every single level a couple can click on. If I had sat down and described the exact woman I was looking for after high school till now, she would fit the description to a t. 3-4 years ago I had come to the conclusion that I might never find someone that is everything I want and that my expectations were simply too high (I've always been like Jerry Seinfeld in that I move on if anything isn't perfectly in line...in a way) but IMO fate took ahold of the situation and made some unusual situations that caused our paths to cross and sparks flew immediately.

In the past I would probably have laughed at one of my friends if they were talking about getting married and buying a house after only knowing someone for under a year, but we've been talking about doing just that recently. It just feels 100% right and for once I can honestly say I can see myself spending the rest of my life with this woman. It's crazy to type that out even.

We have similar goals in life, are in a similar place financially, have similar outlooks on every major aspect of life, our family structures are nearly identical, we have an amazing sex life, she is amazing with my son and truly "gets him" and has a bond with him that really gets me (I didn't even let her meet him until almost 3 months in because I am extremely protective of him) we motivate each other and keep each other focused while also having a 6th sense about when we both want to let loose. People that haven't seen me for a few months constantly ask me what's changed because I look different. Everything about me feels different.

She has made me (not by her request, but because I want to improve myself) eat healthier (I've lost 30 pounds in the last 5 months) no fast food, no soda, my fridge is filled with real food, I exercise and go on walks and jogs because I want to. She just makes me feel like the best part of my life is yet to be written and that's pretty big because IMO I've lived a pretty terrific life thus far.

My question (as the thread title states) is at what age did you first fall in real love?

Still in love with her.
Been in love since, but it seems like it gets a little less intense each time.
Maybe it's the scars, maybe it's the age.

I'm a firm believer that men are different than women in this regard. My philosophy on this is that when a man falls in love for the first time, he's normal. If that doesn't work out, and he somehow falls in love a 2nd time, he is hopeful.

If that flames out, and the dude falls in love at all, ever again in his life, that dude is desperate and can't survive without a women in his life that is in control.

I've seen many people in my life who have proven this to be true, and not one that has disputed it.

I saw your post the other day, and was flattered in a completely non homosexual way. Just an extended hiatus. It was necessary. I've been here the better part of 10 years. I'll be posting versus lurking more often as football is getting ready to gear up again. Finally...

Anyone who gives a number under 25 is a country bumpkin or total yokel. That's what folks from small town USA do: fall in "love" when they're 19 and dive in full bore on a lifetime commitment.

Reality: getting married after 25 severely chops your divorce odds. It's obvious why. If yokels didn't keep getting starstruck so young, many children wouldn't be thrust into terrible divorce situations.

Met her the year I turned 21, married her the year I turned 24, stayed married for 20 years, after which death did us part. How does your foot taste?

I'm the other end of the spectrum, married at 28, divorced at 30. Both of us defy his logic.

Lots of people defy his logic, myself included. It was a poor generalization. I'm not sure why I expected more from him, though.
