Combined with no running game to speak of....yeah Red Zone scoring is going to suffer.

Moving between he 20's may be all it takes to take the Chiefs from an 8 win team to the best team in football that doesn't have a superstar QB (that includes the Ravens, 49ers and Falcons). From there, we can continue to look for the star QB.

I don't see what's farfetched or unreasonable about any of that.
You need a franchise QB. Settling for Orton and hoping he can get it done is what KC has done the last 30 years. It doesn't ****ing work.

The top redzone teams this year had

a. a great rushing attack

B. a great quarterback.

Hell on Nov. 11 the Titans were the best redzone team.

I'd argue that with Richarson and Charles the Chiefs are a top 5 red zone team.

**** me - why do people keep saying this shit like it's mutually exclusive?

By no means is saying that I would bring Orton back the same as saying I don't care if we have a star QB.

There isn't a QB worth taking at 11 in this draft, there just isn't. If you take Tannehill at 11, you're worse shape for 2013 than you would by simply taking Bray, Wilson or Murray in 2012. Tannehill is so damn raw that he'd get absolutely abused this year anyway and you'd be looking at having your QBOTF a little shell-shocked, but hopefully ready to go in 2013.

OR you could draft a QB in 2012 when you're going to have a significantly better QB draft. There will be 5 QBs in the draft next year that are better than the #3 QB in this season's draft.

Quit talking past people - you can do everything you want to do in chasing a franchise QB while also getting a guy like Orton that can absolutely help you win now.

Yep. A healthy Moeaki should help out in the red zone as well.

Don't ask them that - they never have an answer.

It's always the same thing - "A franchise quarterback!!! Duh!!!"

Or they'll say "Go get Manning" as though that wouldn't be the Orton-backers ideal position as well.

Mostly they just don't do terribly well with specifics.

Big fat this.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows we need a Franchise signal caller. There are 20-something teams in this league that want one.

If they grew on trees, we'd all have one.

So, if you don't have one, and are not in a position to get one, then you need to figure out another way to score points. You can't just quit developing your offense and trying to win games because we don't have Tom Brady.

You have to continue to develop your offense and search for your next QBOTF at the same time.

The difference there is Rodgers, oh, and the order of your players.

Packers: Jennings, Nelson, Jones, Driver
Chiefs: Bowe, Baldwin, Breaston, eh - who cares because Driver isn't that good anymore.

You don't need 3 first round WRs to have a passing game. And giving a mediocre QB 3 first round WRs isn't going to turn him into Aaron Rodgers.

That's the problem. Everyone wants to replace Cassel. But you're not going to pry away RG3 or Luck. Manning will likely not want to play in a cold-weather outdoor stadium when he can play in places like Miami or Arizona, and Flynn is likely this year's Matt Cassel/Kevin Kolb, drawing a big contract from someone who doesn't land Manning.

So you can either risk Flynn, or go with guys like Orton or Campbell, neither of which as an overall QB have shown the ability to be any better than Cassel, which is average to below average.

Other option is to draft someone like Tannehill, who probably wouldn't be a huge upgrade as a rookie.

So essentially, that's why Matt Cassel has a great shot to win whatever QB battle will exist. There are people out there who are different or who do things like throw a deep ball better, but there isn't anyone significantly better who is likely to end up being available and willing to come here...

Driver or Jones didn't even catch 40 passes.

You want to use a 1st round pick on another WR because the Packers have 2 with a couple part timers?

Wright would be what Breaston is in our offense. There's no point in drafting him. Hopefully Breaston can be moved inside with Baldwin getting a full offseason.
