I didn't make it past the part where you said we wouldn't be in a win now mode with Romeo. I disagree with that. Pioli gets TWO shots at a head coach, and he'd better dmaned know with the next guy, and win sooner rather than later.
If they honestly think Romeo is the guy and can take this team to the next level, then great. If he flames out after a couple of seasons, it makes me them look even more cheap and lazy than they do now. Hard to argue with your other points, except Weigmann. Cut him now. Great guy, been a great player, but he's just done. |

I would get Jeff Fisher. If I couldn't get him, Romeo probably would be my 2nd choice.
Crop just isn't that deep. Offseason Priority 1? Move to get RG3. Everything else is secondary but probably would include... Paying DBowe & Carr. We have the space. Sign a free agent RT, probably draft one also. Cut Weigmann for sure. Draft a RB mid to late. Long term? Get some more beef on the O-line. A little tired of being one of the smallest O-lines in the league. That's just off the top of my head. |

I hated when Herm was named and I will hate it just as much if Romeo is named the next HC.

Punt and play defense, while controlling the clock and field position.

I would trade my entire team for the Green Bay Packers. Then I would win. That's what I would do.

Romeo has 3 games to show he can be a HC. Then I'll cry about how much I don't want him to be HC.

Well thought out, and I agree with most of it. I truly believe this team is a couple players away, and I don't recall ever being able to say that.
Like you say Wiegmann has been too small for a long time, but now his age won't let him compensate. Cut him and move on. They should be playing the draft picks anyway, same with Powe at NT. Is Powe really that bad? We have seen some surprising play out of Gordon when they move him to NT though. I think at least twice he has gotten a sack, and I think: Wait, what happened? Was that really our guy that got some push and a sack? Yep, it is 99 and he is wearing red! Hallia****inglulia, the line got a sack! Holy bejeepers! But the 1200 pound gorilla setting in the corner is still the QB. They just have to find one, no matter what it takes. No more recycled QBs no matter how much we fell in love with a few of them. That is what concerns me about the "must win now" Pioli is now in, they won't want to develop a QB. Clark needs to sell tickets now! Thus, probably the best case is for Stanzi to be the second coming, or for this team to pick up Manning when Indy has to part with him. I know, he is recycled but win now causes this problem. at this point ... can't change the past
Talk to Crennel about his plans and as long as his are compatible with mine then i would ... Promote Crennel and tell him to clean house on the coaching offensive side of the ball. Go out and find the best offensive coordinator possible. Money is not an issue. Mince no words with Crennel that his job is dependent on having a viable offensive coaching staff that can run a NFL level offense and develop players(especially Quarterback) Tell Crennel that he needs to hire a protege to develop on the defensive side of the ball. Crennel need to start working on identifying his new coaching targets immediately ... not wait until the end of the season. Crennel has the rest of the season to evaluate which players are worth keeping so he better play the young guys and find out. Crennel and New OC have carte blanche when dealing with player personnel. If XXX sucks then cut bait and move on. No excuses. This coming draft job #1 is to find a QB unless Crennel/New OC are prepared to put their jobs on the line that Stanzi is THE GUY. If not then i do whatever i have to do to get whichever QB they want in the draft. WHATEVER i have to do ... no halfass, no settle.

all good points-
I think you need to start to get some consistency, and I think it starts with a general approach within the staff. Yes, it took Cowher 15 years to win a bowl-in fact, it took until he got a franchise QB-but that team was always in the hunt, even with often crap QB's. I think if you have a good organizational foundation then you can be in the hunt every year. I also, however, believe that you MUST have a franchise QB in order to close the deal. We don't have one (at least that we know of) and so we must get one. I think you play Stanzi assuming that you're not going to win these last 3 games, but you need to see if he's got 'it' or not. He'll make mistakes, but if he shows promise then you're in a good spot. And I think you draft a QB early regardless. |

I don't like Fisher any more than anyone else...I like Romeo's pedigree. I know he failed in Cleveland, but so did a certain New England head coach once upon a time.
None of which matters, each individual is different, and each situation is different. Oh, and I meant that you're not in a 'win now' mode for the last 3 games of the season. These are evaluation games. I mean, you try to win, but you try to win with guys that might help you win in the future. And you can be the omniscient decision maker: Pioli/head coach/owner. |
