David Glass Shitty Facts

Let's compile a list...

1. David Glass, as VP, COO & CEO, helped take @Walmart from around 130 stores in 1976 to over 4000 stores in 2000. He is basically the devil.

2. In 2000, Glass became sole owner of the Royals for $96 million. The Board approved his offer despite a competing bid $120m by Miles Prentice

3. The Royals are now worth nearly $500m. David Glass stands to profit over $400m when he sells... and the fans got 20 losing seasons.

4. Dan Glass is the heir apparent.

Please try to keep them around 140 characters. :-) What shit can we find about him?

I'm not sure Miles Prentice would have been any better. Not defending Glass though. Only good thing I can say about him is that he hasn't tried to move the team.

I've seen both numbers. I think that $75 million was his first bid. Google "Miles Prentice Royals $120 million"

Miles Prentice openly said he anticipated operating a 25-30 million dollar payroll if he got the team. Now maybe some of the day to day decisions wouldn't have been as stupid... but I don't think the financial situation would've been any different. It's not like he was Mark Cuban.

Glass gutted it to around $19 million when he took over the team. But that was 20 years ago...

Its something to do in the summer. They've somewhat successfully added enough non-baseball attractions (activities for kids, outfield bars, giveaways) to keep a reasonable amount of people coming in.

After 20 years of shit teams, there's a whole generation that has never known the Royals to be a good team and never became die-hard fans. Its just something to do every once in a while.

This. Admittedly I went to a game last year. The perception I get is that are a ton of fans out there with the attitude of "golly, it's real swell they let KC have a MLB team. Lets just be happy and keep rooting for these boys!"

I mean, people will cheer for anything no matter how crappy it is. There is no in incentive for Glass to change a damn thing.

Its a night out, maybe a free t-shirt and fireworks, and the kids can run the bases after the game! It's a good as having a decent team!

And what a horribly low standard that is.

It almost feels like a minor league atmosphere out there. Ahhhh shucks, who cares if we win, we all had a good time!

I do think there are still a lot of diehard fans. Probably more than there should be. Look at how many people were up at 4 in the morning last night to catch the end of the game. "Royals" was one of the top 4-5 things trending nationally on Twitter. Cardinals was not.
