Credit Question
I have a derogatory mark on my credit history that is nearing the 7 year mark. What can I do to get it off? Also, has anyone used or heard good or bad things about credit repair services?

get an Equifax account and dispute it - they include detailed instructions on how to dispute. That'll get them to work in correcting it.

Rinse and repeat with all three credit reporting companies until it vanishes. They send a confirmation to the offending company and the company will likely miss one and then TU/Eq/Ex will remove it. This is basically all those "clean your credit" scam companies do if they even bother doing it in most cases.

I'd steer clear of credit repair services. A buddy of mine shelled out a couple of grand to one of those services years ago and they did nothing to his credit report.
If it's close to seven years, just be patient and it will disappear at the seven year mark. |

If you can't pay even a negotiated lower rate the mark should drop off soon. Are you trying to get a mortgage, car loan, card?

Talk to your lender, see if it even matters. If it does, negotiate a pay for delete.

You're fine. If you aren't comfortable contact them and settle for delete.
