I figured I would start a thread for this and see what happens....there seemed to be quite a few viewers on the board for this show the past few weeks.....I like the direction the show is taking so far......episode 3 tonight at 7 central on ABC....

IMO he did NOT go back in time. He was knocked out and was dreaming about his past and how he wishes the past was different (proposing to Penny), but pieces of the present (the island) kept popping into his dream about the past (coffee maker, paintings, etc.). I think the island influenced his dream a bit by telling him about fate and it doesn't matter what he does, etc. If he had really time travelled, you'd think Charley would have remembered him as the crazy guy that predicted it was going to rain. It was a neat episode, but once again, it didn't answer a damn thing - no explanation to how he can see glimpses into the future.

I agree he didn't go back in time, but was dreaming.

Not sure about the seeing the future. Not sure why he woke up naked ether. I love the show, but everytime we get one question answerd two more pop up. What about Clare? If Desmond wouldn't have saved Clare and Charlie would have dove in, I guess Clare wouold have drowned to? Does that mean she is next in line to die?

Can't wait fo the next episode!

I thought he was dreaming, but the end was confusing. He said he saved Charlie twice... he saved him, then he drowned... then on this trip back he saved him from drowning. So this is the third time on the island for him.

And the question has already been asked here, if the key triggers him going back, he wouldn't know what happens after that, so it has to be something else... will they ever say?

A while back Desmond left on his boat, then came back drunk saying he was "back on the damn island"... if leaving the island made him go back in time, he would have had to leave a second time (if this was his third time back). When he left on his boat, he seemed so eager to get off, with no sense of deja vu.... so none of it really makes much sense.

The first time was from the lighting strike. The second time was from drowning.

The previews said this week's is supposed to be another big episode... I doubt they'll come back to this so soon, but hopefully they don't just put it on the back burner with the other unanswered questions.

That still doesn't explain why he has knowledge of events that happened on the island AFTER he turned the key.

That's interesting. My wife said it was the best episode of the season. I was a little disappointed, especially after last week's amazing episode -- but my wife continues to claim that this show is about character development, not action or mystery.

People seem to watch this show for very different reasons.
