Chiefs reportedly have fired all coaches besides Emmitt Thomas and Gary Gibbs. Lovie smith had expressed interest in #Chiefs DC Job. |

Tampa 2.
The only way that works is if you have big strong, athletic, quick interior linemen, and a MLB that has the size to shed blocks in the box, and the speed to get into the deep middle in pass coverage.

And safeties who are allowed to hit without getting penalized. And corners who can press coverage and not get tagged for holding/PI. Read an article that Ronde Barber himself said that's a big reason why even he doesn't like the defense right now.

I have a question. Could you see Berry playing that primary MLB position in the Tampa 2? He'd be utilized pretty much how he was this year, as the 3rd safety on the field, in the box. We'd need two safeties to pull it off but he's the only one on the team with the versatility to play that important position in the Tampa 2.

Cover 2 would mean a drastic change scheme and personnel which would take at least 2 years to get the players and system fully assimilated

I want a DC who is either young enough to be a few years away from an HC opportunity, or a guy that knows his ceiling is as a coordinator so we can actually get some continuity and a system in place.
While I don't think any of the individuals we've had as coordinators have been that good, the constant change has made it that much more difficult. If Lovie knows he's not an HC and would like to be a DC for awhile, let's do it. Otherwise, someone like Kevin Greene would be better. |
