Rufus hard at work defending Carl again...

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2007/01...award_of_2006/

A feature which reinforces the skeptical dominance of today’s media is the elevation of the power of image over rational argument. This springs as much from the excess of the pundit class than from any other body. But it has more disturbing implications when those who are supposed to be accountable for what they write and say suddenly and most conveniently ignore what they had been writing and saying.

After promoting in countless articles the notion that the signing of Ty Law was the missing piece of the puzzle and that he could carry the Chiefs to the Super Bowl the media – principally the Kansas City Star with one obvious exception there – now finds itself trying to shake off its pro-Law label like it was a K-State parka in an overheated SUV.

Indeed, the Star has been at the forefront trumpeting the need for the Chiefs to sign Ty Law for numerous off-seasons dating back to a time when the one-time all-pro cornerback wasn’t even yet on the market. Now, as this regular season comes to an end, the sports page as part of its “2006 NFL Awards” has christened its one-time savior as, catch this, “the worst free agent pick of the year” – as in the entire National Football League. (December 31, 2006)

Granted, some of the stuff that the Star cranks out like its predictions, grades and so forth, doesn’t exactly rate as a dive to the deep end of the knowledge pool, but this sudden flip on Law rates not only as one of its most hypocritical but one of its most inaccurate.

For starters, Ty Law couldn’t even be the worst free agent defensive back signing this year much less the worst free agent signing. That distinction likely would go to defensive back Adam Archuleta, signed by the Redskins, who else, and benched over the course of the season. Archuleta was signed to a $35 million dollar contract with a $5 million dollar signing bonus and a $10 million guarantee, and he’s not good enough to start.

Archuleta has no real competition for the award but just for argument’s sake, did the following teams get their money’s worth for these free agents: Anthony Weaver (Houston from Baltimore), Antwaan Randle El (Washington from Pittsburgh), Keyshawn Johnson (Carolina from Dallas)? Do these media people research these award winners or just pick them out of the air? While I hold no great support for the inking of various free agents, who can sit silent while media accountability disappears faster than a pack of smokes at an AA meeting.

That's true, but it's just amusing to see Carl run to cover his ass so quickly as soon as someone criticizes him for his prize free agent. Next Rufus will be telling us about Jason Dunn and how he could barely walk.

No chit. Rufus is an embrassment to this organization. Just release press statements or say the words yourselfs instead of through some supposely annonymus "columinst" on your own lame ass web site.
