Observation:
What is it that the Chiefs seem to be lacking? I am thinking they are lacking leaders on the field. I think we have some silent leaders like TG, DE and some others, but do we really have the type of player that will get into the face of the other players that don't appear to be carrying their own weight, much less the guy next to them. In the games that I have watched, there really isn't the emotion on the field that there should be. It seems like there were plenty of times that DT or someone else would call someone out on the sidelines. Is someone doing this now. If the reports are true, we know the coaches can't do this because they don't have the respect of the players to do any good. Talk amongst yourselves..... :) ------------------ Brian K. I have a sneaking suspicion that hiccups in the secondary unraveled this defense more than we'll ever fully know. The way Dennis was getting toasted there for a while makes EVERYONE adjust to cover for him. Glock overruns a running play, trying to get to the QB faster, LBs come off the line a little more into the secondary, etc. But more importantly, the team is playing to cover its own flaws, not the opponent. You plain-old play DIFFERENT when you know everyone else is doing their job. Not harder, not more passionate, but with more certainty and conviction.

From what I saw on Monday night it looked like Maz was calling some people out. I am really excited about this guy. We may have found quite a shiny diamond in the rough. Other than Maz's fire I think Hasty and probably Grunhard are the leaders of this team, which is unfortunate because both are likely to retire at the end of the year.

Hasty? This guy calls everyone out in an attempt to get them to play better, then half-a$$es it himself.
During the Pats last drive of the 1st half, I saw Hasty just stand there as others came to tackle the ball carrier on three straight plays. Sure, he couldn't have made the play all alone and help was almost already there, but if he would've at least TRIED to put a hit on someone he could've stopped them 2-3 yards short of where they ended up. Multiply that 2-3 yards by 3 and it's closer to a 60-yard FG rather than a 53-yarder. Don't get me wrong, I like Hasty. I just don't see him backing up all of the talking that he does. I think Maz is the guy on D, and Elvis SHOULD be the guy on O . . . although I'm not sure if he can do it. If not, then TG needs to be that guy. MM ~~Believes Maz could get my grandmother pumped up for a game. |

JC - I wouldn't say Dennis was getting toasted, I would say that the scheme set him up to fail. When on every play you are supposed to be 8-10 yards off the guy accross from you and keep him in front of you it makes it almost impossible to succeed. The wussy zone has killed us repeatedly, if you don't bump and you blitz the WR's are all going to be open and the D is going to be embarrassed, like it has most of the season.

"Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it."
--D. Eisenhower This may be the problem. Does anyone on this team actually WANT to win? MM ~~Loves Bartlett's book. [This message has been edited by Mark M (edited 12-06-2000).] |

Whether its Dennis' ability or the scheme in which they place him, my point is that his high profile failures prey on the minds of the teammates in their efforts.

Why hasn't anyone blamed the coaches in this thread? JRaye is responsible for blowing the Pats game. j/k
