I'm going to wait and see how it goes.

I do like the idea of playing a 1-gap.

I really like the defensive lineup of coaches. I like Brasher, and wanted to keep Gibbs and Thomas. Special teams coach is a coup in my eyes. I'm pretty happy. We'll just have to play wait and see with Sutton. He goes 1 gap and brings an attacking defense, I think we can do very well.

I have a number of fears about switching back to the 4-3.

1. It creates some major needs on defense. The last time we switched schemes we used the #3 pick on Tyson Jackson... Would have to see a defense "need" prevent us from taking a QB.

2. When you look at all the DC names we heard of most of them run the cover 2. I think that's an outdated defense, especially against running qbs. While I'd love to have Lovie Smith, I don't want to see the cover two back in KC.

Tyson is going to have to rework his deal. Yeah, he improved last year, but that ****er isn't getting 17 millio of Hunt dollars for his body of work to date. It's still a huge question mark if he'll be back.

He and others were progressing before last season. Although I want Jackson gone, I almost want to erase this past season as an evaluation of a lot of these players. It's obvious that the leadership, coaching wise, was completely screwed up.
A lot of turnover is coming, but there's a lot of guys who I want to be evaluated under new leadership before getting rid of. We all know how important coaching is in this league, and it's as if it was non-existent this past season.

It doesn't create needs, it just moves them.

Right now we need to 3 'box' defenders; 2 DEs and an ILB. If we switched to the 4-3, we'd need 2 'box' defenders, IMO and 3 at worst - 2 OLBs and maybe a NT. Houston and Hali would move to DEs with Poe in the undertackle role. I think Powe could be a very good 4-3 Nose, so I'm not sure that's a true need if you switch to a 4-3.

It doesn't create any holes, it just moves them. We did a shit job at converting to the 3-4 anyway; most of the guys we had in it weren't all that well suited for it and one guy that was (Jackson) actually sucked a great deal. I'd go back to the 4-3 and focus on creating pressure from my down lineman like the Giants did to win the SB.

Rapoti is good to go at 34RDE and Tyson J is far from suckage at 34LDE. you put these men in a 1 plus 2 gap scheme and they will get you pressure along with Poe up the middle. Add in Hali/Houston and you have a pass rush.

You swap this team out to 43 D and you have to start over in the pass rush dept.

Huh?

Did we watch the same team last year?

No, Pitoitua is not 'good go go'; he's an adequate stop gap that should be no more than a situational player. He's only 'good to go' if you mean 'the hell away'. He's exceptionally replaceable.

As to Jackson, no, he is not far from suckage. He is an awful football player who has no technique and a pretty lousy motor.

And finally, no, they would not have to start over at pass-rusher if they converted to a 4-3 - they have Hali and Houston. Houston is a better version of Chris Clemons and Hali is the same guy that was drafted as a 4-3 DE, only now he's stronger than he used to be and has developed legitimate pass-rush moves. He's probably losing his first step a bit, however, so he's actually probably better suited to move back to the D-line as a down lineman where his route to the QB won't be quite as long as it is as a standup backer.
