If you asked me on Saturday morning, "SNR, does there exist a certain way that the Chiefs could lose this game that would make you question your loyalty to this football team and even to the very sport?" I probably would have said no, I can't think of a loss so soul-crushing that would do that. After all, I've been a Chiefs fan for all 7 of those consecutive playoff losses and in those 7 games have seen losses in all shapes and forms. Blowouts, ref jobs, dumb shit by idiot kickers, meltdowns, and the always popular played-hard-but-just-wasn't-good-enough. I've seen it all. I've also become severely desensitized to losing since the Vermeil years. I endured the 2-12 sandwich from 2007-2009. I endured that ****head Scott Pioli. I endured clueless coaches, inept offenses, inept defenses, and inept special teams.

I thought I had seen it all.

Nothing could have prepared me for losing this way. To THIS ****ing piece of shit douchebag team. To THIS ****ing QB, the Golden Boy can't-do-wrong chosen one prospect to end them all that was selected by perhaps the most undeserving franchise of that QB in the entire ****ing league. The one that got picked exactly one year prior to our #1 overall pick, Eric "Pussydick" Fisher. We lost to THAT team. On THIS occasion, when we set an NFL record for consecutive playoff losses. And we didn't just lose. We didn't just lose a hard fought back-and-forth. We didn't just lose in the first quarter. We had to first experience the taste of victory, get our hopes up, get confident, be convinced that we were going to win, and THEN we couldn't just get it ripped off like a band-aid. We had to sit and watch the loss transpire over 2 torturous and painful hours, watching starter after starter get concussed and failure after failure take place.

This is the kind of loss that not only makes me want to take a break from football, but it's making me think about the kind of fan I'll become if/when I come back. I was already at such a low point of apathy with this franchise going into the season. My give-a-shit meter for football in general is so low right now that I don't particularly care to watch another playoff game this season. I don't know if I'll even watch the Super Bowl. The draft is my favorite time of the year, but it's hard for me to muster up the energy and excitement if I don't give a shit about outcomes.

I'm never quitting Chiefs Planet. Let's get that straight. But I don't know if I can fully recover from this playoff loss. And truthfully, deep deep down inside, I kind of hope I don't. I was so much happier when I didn't have to suffer incredible letdowns and disappointments in those 4-12 and 2-14 years.

I told my dog right after Smith's glide up in the pocket and strike down the field to Avery that I should turn the tv off. That was as good as the season was going to get for me.

The biggest issue to me is that I just don't know how to deal with all of the injury stuff anymore. They're part of the game of course, but you can't train to withstand concussions.

Luck (both the guy and the phenomenon) wasn't with us yesterday. That's all it comes down to.

I think this really puts a dent into the mirage known as "Chiefs Kingdom" (wow I hate that dumb moniker). Clark tried to bamboozle the fanbase into thinking Big Andy was the answer. It worked for a few months until the schedule hardened and we reverted into what we probably were: a .500 team. Yesterday's debacle probably forced the regime to look itself in the mirror and realize they didn't accomplish much in mending fences with the fanbase, as they believed they'd done with their hot start.

I agree. I was psyched for the draft last year only to be left with blueballs. We had a run of high draft picks and never took a qb. Draft a young qb and your team can be relevant for 10-12 years. Get a stop gap like Alex and we will be good enough to not draft a top qb but not good enough to win it all. So in 3-4 years if Alex gets extended then what? More 11-5 and playoff loses and being jealous of teams who have a franchise qb and feel like they are contenders every year.

Alex Smith was the first overall pick in the same draft that Rodgers went in, and I doubt McCarthy views Rodgers as a stopgap...pretty certain reid doesn't view Smith as a 'stopgap'...you're a fool if you think, after his performance yesterday, that Alex Smith is a 'stopgap'. he's what, 29?? He's gonna be here awhile.
