Since the MLB draft is in a week why not? Baseball gurus where do you see Starling getting drafted and what kind of money will be thrown his way? I heard momma Starling wants him to go to school but that could be posturing.

Sad to read this now and remember how high Starlings ceiling was viewed by the industry when he was drafted.

Of course, this draft was also coming off the Best System Ever offseason, when many in the industry thought the royals had a Midas touch.

Can we get a do-over?

I cited historical examples, which boded incredibly well for them making the playoffs. Basically every other team with a top system had done it.

Of course, in hindsight we know There are some significant development problems that were in play.

Starling would be a JR/SR with 1 of the best RB's in the nation and the best WR group the school has seen with that defense . They would have been legit contenders

Starling was BB America's #1 HS prospect. That same publication has an impeccable reputation ranking prospects and systems, and their body of work proves it since nearly every team with the top system makes the playoffs within 2 years.


So in Duncan's defense this isn't really a Starling issue or a system issue. This simply must be an organizational training & development one and it's hard to stomach.

Who knows how Starling would translate as a college QB?

He's a physical monster who was bigger and stronger than just about every defender on the field in high school, which let him Tebow his way to success. He was NOT a very refined thrower, and that would have been the real question at the college level.

I think he would have been very Taylor Martinez-esque.

Considering how much and how long he has struggled at baseball, I wonder if he has the mental fortitude and internal drive to overcome failure and adversity and reach his full potential (in any sport).

This is a fair point but Martinez was never as explosive after the injury vs Mizzou while he did improve as a passer.

In college ball you dont need a great passing QB though. Collin Klein and the Auburn QB are good examples of that.

Starling is done though. I dont think a guy who played the way he did can take 3 years off and still play the physical game like he did. Atleast he has millions in the bank and a qualifying test score for college.
