Since the MLB draft is in a week why not? Baseball gurus where do you see Starling getting drafted and what kind of money will be thrown his way? I heard momma Starling wants him to go to school but that could be posturing.

Maybe I'm forgetting one or two big cases, but generally speaking, it seems DM has done a great job of winning these negotiations for Boras draft picks.

Of course, Boras is going to shove it down our throats when guys like Hosmer hit free agency, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

That's pretty much been the projected figure from the start.

It's only a win in that Moore didn't panic and overpay. But that's also almost exactly what most folks predicted it would take to sign him.

Good for Moore for not biting on the bluff. The NE thing was just not realistic, no matter how hard he tried to sell it.

The Cards got Wong signed almost immediately and he's been pretty much terrorizing low A since he got there; it'll be great for him next season, IMO.

It's huge to get those first couple of months as a professional ballplayer out of the way. They learn how to treat the game as their job and it gives them a major boost going into the following season.

It would've been awfully nice for the Royals to have gotten that under Starling's belt going into 2012. He could've been ready for High A or even a September bump to AA by as early as next season if he'd have performed well at low A this year.

I'd be shocked if Bubba is in AA within a year of beginning his career.

DM spoke about coming down from an adrenalin rush, so there must have really been some question about his signing.

Just a brief stopover. A lot of teams will try to give their premier prospects a brief taste of AA at the end of a season, even if it means starting them at A+ the next year, to show them the carrot they're reaching for.

And in some instances, they actually think the guy can help on a playoff push (the Cardinals did that with Pujols and he helped them win the title in AA with a massive playoff run).

It wasn't likely, but lets say he went to low A and crushed for 2 months (not unrealistic, low A is essentially premier level HS ball; like the traveling AS teams and such). Next season, they could have him on an accelerated low A schedule and get him to high A by June. If he performs well in High A, they'd probably at least consider giving him a cup of coffee in AA to wrap up the season and give him his target for 2012.

As it is, he may not play a game for them this season. Then next year he'll probably start in short season rookie ball, make a move to Low A in a couple of months, then high A towards the end of the year if he excels.

Granted, if he struggles (certainly possible for a HS kid), it will all be moot as he wouldn't have advanced rapidly anyway. But if he plays well, the holdout could have the effect of keeping him back a full level.
