One of the biggest drawbacks to a Dodge/Ram/Chrysler, etc. is the price of parts. The only place you can get parts for a newer model is from a dealership. The insurance companies are aware of this and the premiums reflect as much. I do think that the full sized Ram quad cab is the best looking truck on the market right now.

Why can't u get them other places? I shop strictly oriellys and get all the parts for my 09 there and my dads 13. We've got the parts for a 08 and 11 3/4 tons we've worked on there.

Parts I am talking about body stuff, headlights, etc. An insurance company doesn't care about an alternator.

From my aunt who is an insurance agent and runs an adjusters office for State Farm.
If it is under factory warranty you cannot use cheapie aftermarket replacement parts or paints.

Lots of good information in this thread.

If you are going to be spending the majority of your time with the truck towing heavy loads and highway cruising, get the Cummins. Of course you have to put up with the stink and noise of the diesel, but for a guy that inhales the smell of hog shit and listens to their squeals on a daily basis, that should be no big deal.

But if you want the best all around truck, with plenty of power and good mileage, get the Hemi. With the MDS system, the Hemi will get over 20 mpg even in a 2500.

I've never had an adjuster for any company tell me that . One of my best friends has a body shop and he said he's never heard that either, hell he just told me an adjuster gave him an estimate with an aftermarket bedside quoted on it last week.

Not sure why they would tell you that. My aunt probably wasn't suppose to tell me that either.
I don't know it from personal experience either.
Best thing to do, which a person should always do prior to purchasing a vehicle, is to call and get quotes across the board.

Well as a shop getting a detailed estimate from an adjuster they most times quote you the parts and where they found them, and add in a markup for you to make money.

So they tell you right where they would buy the parts from, hence them teling you they prefer aftermarket parts be used...

First off that would apply to any new truck if it were true. Insurance doesn't give two shits factory or not unless the customer throws a fit about it. Insurance wants the least amount possible out of their pocket.
