Quick question, and I don't want to sound like a dick because it doesn't matter either way. But does anyone think that pitch to Dee Gordon was grooved? Even if it was, it's still one hell of a moment.
Yeah, I think there are many who think that pitch was grooved. Over on reddit.com/r/baseball, that view is being discussed, https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/co..._plate/d83ennm

Either way, still a remarkable and moving tribute.

I just saw the tribute, the solo and the HR. Very heavy indeed. Beautiful though.

Yes, if true and I think it is, it's pretty awesome sportsmanship by Bartolo colon too. He threw an 85 mph Meatball over the plate. Pretty cool stuff

I don't think it was. Bartolo Colon doesn't throw very hard to begin with. If you look at pitch charts on most home runs, you'll see a lot of them occur on pitches over the middle. Especially when a pitcher is behind in the count. Why do you think pitchers always talk about working both sides of the plate?

Plus, this is Dee Gordon. The dude doesn't hit homers. Was Colon thinking "let me groove one so this guy can honor Jose with an infield single"?

Also, Mets in the thick of a playoff race and do you honor a competitor's memory by not competing? Colon clearly didn't have it last night, as he got rocked all game. Sometimes unbelievable moments are just what they are.

Ouch.....still a tragedy??

Jose Fernandez had cocaine, alcohol in system during fatal boat crash

Mianmi Marlins star pitcher Jose Fernandez had cocaine in his system when he and two friends were killed in a boat crash last month off Miami Beach, the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner's office said Saturday.

Associate Medical Examiner Kenneth Hutchins listed "boat crash" as the cause of death but also said Fernandez was legally drunk with a blood alcohol concentration of .147.
Fernandez, 24, suffered blunt-force injuries to the head and torso, along with skull and jaw fractures when the boat he was in hit a jetty near Miami Beach in the early morning hours of September 25.

Authorities have not determined who was piloting the boat.

Do you think that his family deserved to lose him and his child deserved to grow up without a father because of this?
