From everything I've heard, this is more in the Avatar range. That was a shitty movie, but the 3D was breathtaking.

I don't really care about 3D, but the only way to see this on the big IMAX screen was to see it in 3D.

Far and away the best 3D film I've seen.

I think I've only seen 3 (Up, The Avengers, and Prometheus).

They were all very good in 3D, but this time I literally felt like Michael Fassbender's face was within reaching distance...

That being said, as long as you take the "Alien" element out of this movie, it's a really good sci-fi thriller. I guess it sets up for a sequel, but who knows...

Okay here's some things I'm thinking about in spoiler tags.

First keep in mind that I haven't seen Alien in like 10 years and these questions might sound stupid...

1. The guy who killed himself in the beginning. Do you think that he was the life-force behind creating the Alien race (and the model of that huge ass statue), or do you think that he didn't like what his fellow people were doing and he was killing himself to get out of it?

2. Was the Alien that came out of the dude at the end the first "Alien?" I don't know what that species is called, but it seems that it was born of our human DNA rather than their human DNA and it was different than the others.

3. Why the **** didn't they get a real old person to play Peter Weyland? Shit looked so fake.

4. Only one of these questions is valid. How did she put David back together? or How did she figure out how to fly the ship? That's the only thing that really bugs me.

she wasn't really in many scenes outside of the ship...Fassbender's head was detached and they had closeups of it on the entire IMAX screen, that's why I said him...

1. No, that was very clearly an engineer seeding life on earth, in a sacrificial rite. As I said, that scene made it clear how important, almost religious, the engineers take their responsibility, and explains why the engineer at the end decides he needs to wipe out the idiots who just woke him up.

2. No, it was very clearly not the first Alien. The facility on the planet had obviously manufactured xenomorphs before, as evidenced by the mural. The whole places was a bio-weapons facility, and the xenomorph was the ultimate end result.

Also, the engineer corpses in the other cryo tubes (there were 4) all have their chests burst wide open. It would seem pretty obvious to me some aliens got loose thousands of years ago on that planet, and that's why all the engineers were dead, and running from something horrible in the holographic recordings.

3. I didn't mind it. I like Guy Pearce and thought he nailed the character. There were also deleted scenes with a young Weyland.

4. David was the one who knew how to fly the ship. And we don't know if she put him back together. Maybe the sequel is Dr. Shaw and David, The Android Head having adventures.

Okay. I haven't watched this movie or really followed its creation despite loving the Aliens franchise. All that being said, the ideas put forth in it really really remind me of a book called The Sparrow

Check it out. Seriously. Wonderful book about First Contact and what it all means if that contact isn't benevolent.
