Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT
Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Rightfully so.

This is a huge turning point of this team.
Sure. I just think , for more than a few here, Geno doing well, Alex not, is more desirable than the other way around.

I would have rather taken him over Cassel then.

I don't think you can necessarily say he would have been a failure or a success in KC. Like Sorter said, too many variables.

Honestly, I think CP finally had it's breaking point this offseason with all this going down.

It literally broke apart mid air.

49ers 3rd down conversion % when Smith started... 38.6%, which would've been good for 14th in the league.
49ers 3rd down conversion % when Kap started... 34.4%, which would've been good for 26th in the league.
So... perhaps the Niners 3rd down issues weren't all Alex? Maybe? Compare to 2 QBs 3rd down stats as well. Not close.

Go to the Coalition if you want to talk about feel good garbage. I'll bet you feel like you really missed out on some quality Luke Joeckel talk this spring because it kept getting overloaded with QB discussion.

That's the issue of the day for Chiefs fans. We've had gobs of great LTs come and go through our locker room. We haven't had a legit QB come through in the same way since Len Dawson. And it's been 30 years since we even legitimately tried to make that a reality.

So excuse me if people couldn't shut up about Geno Smith around here. It was kind of a big deal, you see.

What have you bitched about this offseason in regards to the Chiefs?

I don't care if you come here to bitch, sure we all do. But if you are going to bitch about the same things over and over, well I dunno.

It sucks, cause we can't really have much football discussion anymore because it always goes back to the same things.

I just want the Chiefs to be successful so we can have some positive bitching, instead of apathetic bitchfests.

The 49ers finished no higher than 25th in third down conversion rate when Alex Smith was their QB the last 7 years.

They did, however, improve when he exited the lineup in favor of Shaun Hill.

Not really. The stat doesn't lie. He had a better 3rd down percentage. So go back to your bundle of stickss forum.

This is a speech you could be giving to a lot of people here. Frankly, I don't think I post enough to be seen as bitching over and over. Sorry if I bug you.

Also to mention Jaws who is good friends with Reid and talk reguarly said he sees Reid taking a qb #1.

As far as what I've bitch about over the Chiefs. I don't know. There hasn't been a lot I've been disappointed with. I thought the compensation for Smith was too high. That's about it
