Who the **** cares? It’s about game reps at game speed, and experience...not about Mahomes playing well against Denver. He could throw 15 INTs or 15 TDs and all that matters is the experience. Don’t you think Mahomes and the coaching staff realize what he would be going up against, and with whom he has on his side?? You’re not going to ruin the kid after one poor outing with nothing on the line. Have him go sling it! Especially if the plan is to make him the unquestionable starter next season.

So, if Smith goes down in the first quarter of a playoff game, who replaces him?

Isn't Mahomes the backup?

I would think that Mahomes would have a better chance to succeed in a meaningful playoff game if he had an actual NFL start under his belt just a week or two prior.

The playoffs are the playoffs, if Smith goes down then yeah... not much choice other than play the kid

But the conditions of his first supposed start are terribad, its no way to break in a rookie QB

I'm thinking that if he is too fragile to handle a meaningless week 17 game, he might not be the guy to back up Smith in the playoffs.

IMO, whoever starts the week 17 game should be the backup.

One thing to consider is having the starters play, and if they get up to an early two score lead, then you throw in the backups. Give them some breathing room, allow the OL to lean on the running game in order to protect Mahomes.

I think that's what you do. It's the best of both worlds.

He hasnt been getting starter reps all year, and you just wanna throw him out there on the road against Denver with a weeks practice, in a game not likely to affect our seeding?

What in the **** do you mean? The kid NEEDS reps! A meaningless game is the perfect place for him to do that. Should he not play on the road against a physical D in the preseason next year as well? Lol!

I think Reid knows what he’s doing. And I can guarantee you that Mahomes starts in Denver if KC has a playoff spot locked up.
