It is one of the best scifi shows ever if you get past the horrible cgi.

Acting, storytelling and makeup/species is top notch.

Seasons 2 thru 4.

Imo they just need to redo all the cgi. Then rebroadcast as new. It would be a hit and every b5 from before would buy the new dvd sets also.

I would have it next to another scifi series also that was rebooted to draw extra intrest.
But wasn't the entire show shot for 4:3 and it's not possible to show in HD?

Lots of good ideas in here. I want them to start up Stargate Universe again. It's been discussed a bunch on here before, but talk about a show that was just hitting its stride when they pulled the plug. And, it's not like they didn't leave it wide open for a return at some point in the future....

The recent buzz has been rebooting the movies into a trilogy.

All new actors, as Spader, Russell, etc. are too old.

Interesting. Are you saying they're talking about taking the core matter from the original movie and rebooting that, or taking the subject matter from the many tv spinoff shows and combining them into a movie trilogy?

Either way, I think it's a good move. There are tons of Stargate fans out there.

4:3 is a conversion process. Everything is shot in widescreen.

The producers could go back to the original film and transfer but it would be a costly process.

Paramount recently revamped all of the VFX from the original Star Trek and TNG, as well as offering them in widescreen. I have no idea if that's economically feasible for Babylon 5.

My understanding was that they'd reboot the Stargate Universe as a trilogy of movies with new actors.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head. I don't *think* they were planning a remake of the original film but a new storyline altogether.

Thanks.

Not sure how I would feel about taking it back to the beginning and rebooting the entire shabangbang. SG-1 was fantastic (Atlantis was hit and miss, and I've shared my SU opinion), and it would be a shame to lose all that storytelling to a reboot of that universe...

My neighbor across the street is a former producing partner with Devlin, which is how I first heard of it.

I never watched the TV series but thought the film had more promise than the movie delivered.

In other words, cool concept, meh execution.

What I'd like to see a TV series based on the movie "Jumper".

I think that Hayden Christensen has the charisma of a door stop but it was a cool movie with a very cool concept.

The new series "The Tomorrow People" is similar, if I'm remembering the movie correctly.

You're a little off on this one. 4:3 is an aspect ratio, not a conversion process, and it was the standard for most of the history of television (literally, the Standard Definition - NTSC). 16:9 didn't begin to show up until the mid-90s. Both TOS and TNG were 4:3. Even if the physical film used was widescreen (and I believe it may have been for TNG) the framing of the shots wasn't. You have lighting rigs and other crap in the shots, because everything was framed to fall within the broadcast safe areas of 4:3 televisions.

(I think Enterprise was actually the only anamorphic Star Trek series)

So while they were digitally remastered, they were not made widescreen.

But don't take my word for it, I believe this explanation was ripped directly from the first disk set:

Yes, you are correct. I worded it poorly. I was also going to add that it might be necessary to crop something like Babylon 5, but didn't want to get too technical.

Truth be told, video isn't my strong suit. I have Sony Vegas 12 that I use for codec conversions and approvals and fortunately, I don't need to know too much beyond that.

I have the Buffy box set and Whedon says the same thing for why it's not widescreen. I guess the English version was released in widescreen and you could see stagehands moving around as well as the light rigs you mentioned.

I was actually still working in 4:3 as recently as late last year - a lot of the stuff I edit runs in odd places like on buses, and many of them still use DVD media, which was/is an SD format (although it can also do 16:9) and tiny 4:3 screens. I finally convinced the company to make a move to 16:9 this year. Kicking and screaming.
