It's worth mentioning again: This Game Is Our Season

While much of CP has checked out on 2014, it's important to remember that the Chiefs ultimately rely on no one but themselves to get into the playoffs. If they lose one game over the next two weeks, they're out. But if they win, they not only will be in, they will have beaten all their competitors to get there (Bills, Dolphins, Steelers, Chargers 2 x's) -- that would be utterly astounding. Not only did most of us project a sub-.500 season (I projected 7-9), this hypothetically 10-win team could very easily have been 12-wins if not for slamming its own dick in the two drawers of Oakland and Nashville.

That being said, the following things absolutely must happen for the Chiefs to win -- and I should know, because I post here instead of working on Reid's coaching staff:

1. Start Vance Walker as the top DE over Allen Bailey. Walker is tons better against the run than Bailey is, who is just getting erased in the run game this year. You also don't lose a ton of passrushing either, as Walker is plenty talented in that department.

2. Play Fleming over Owens as the #3 CB. Owens has given us everything he's got, but Fleming is looking like another bargain bin finding by Dorsey at the CB position. His ability to track receivers and change directions fluidly is going to be sorely needed against Marcus Wheaton and Antonio Brown.

3. Play Avant as the #2 WR, and Wilson as your #3. You can't trust Avant to make plays for us for a whole year, but we can sure expect him to make plays for a couple weeks. Avant is perfect for this offense and can threaten deep. Wilson has performed extremely well, especially considering the Cardinals' secondary is one of the league's best. He's giving us 3-4 receptions a week.

4. Bring back the three TE set. The entire offense went off track when Harris went down and we abandoned the three TE sets, which Smith clearly loves. Anthony Sherman can play as the third TE, or even better, get Gordon involved -- he clearly outplayed Harris in the preseason.

5. Start Linkenbach. For the love of all that is holy. Friends don't let friends play McGlynn.

6. Play Hammond over Thomas at punt returner. Frankie Hammond has been an excellent returner when Thomas has either been injured or benched, and doesn't make Thomas' weekly bone-headed decisions with the ball. The Chiefs aren't going to win by striking out hoping to hit a home run -- which has been Thomas' MO this year. They're going to win by hitting singles and doubles, which Hammond can do.

It shouldn't come to this being a must win but if this is a decent team they go give the Steelers hell.

And I swear anyone who uses that stupid spelling needs to be ****ing hanged from their dick.

We haven't had any breaks go our way since Fasano caught that touchdown pass while sitting on his butt. The ebb and flow of the NFL will change this Sunday and the Chiefs will actually get some lucky breaks and make enough big plays to make week 17 worth watching. It won't be easy but it will be entertaining.

I can't think of a better scenario than this team getting hot at the right time and beating the Steelers in the own house and then beating a division rival en route to the playoffs. The time is now.

I agree with all of these other than starting Hammond at PR over Thomas. You don't pull a kid who's riding high from returning a big one last week just because he's been shaky at times. He's a playmaker. That's a dumb idea.

They will with this regime. Manning and Brady will be done after next year this team can contend for superbowls as long as they draft.

This team won't compete for super bowls unless Alex Smith grows a pair of balls.

100% this.

I think AS is capable of making the plays, but I really don't see the testicular fortitude to make it happen

The Hammond over DAT fallacy has been discussed, but I can't believe more are ok with avant over Wilson at wr#2... Wilson has done nothing but improve, and has been very productive for us of late. Avant hasn't done much but drop a couple of passes.

It's never been physical with him. It's a mental thing caused by a few years of winning games by playing ultra conservative.

He's like a Texas Holdem player that never plays anything but premium hands and as a result can't get anyone to bet a big hand with him. You gotta bluff once in awhile and you also have to play other hands aggressively and read your opponent to consistently take big pots...but Alex doesn't have the nuts for that part of the game.

Hopefully that changes because I'd love to see us make the playoffs BECAUSE OF OUR QUARTERBACK...not despite him.

Every time I see Albert Wilson I think of Jermaine Kearse. Both were undrafted rookies who are very similar prospects, but Wilson is much faster in his straight line speed.
That's Wilson's ceiling IMO.

Pretty interesting how this team is being molded in the same image as the Seattle Seahawks, which is no surprise since Schneider and Dorsey learned the same philosophy in Green Bay.
