Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT
Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

All I see is a player with potential bust written all over him.

If its a OT, take Joeckel. The player that was actually heavily recruited out of high school, and who actually played legitimate D1 games.

So lets review this. You asked for players from Central Michigan in the NFL. We named 3. Joe Staley, Cullen Jenkins, and Antonio Brown. Staley is a Pro Bowl, Jenkins has been a steady NFL player and Brown has done well with Pittsburgh.

So your theory blew up and in your face and now you are grasping for straws like an idiot.

Of course you don't know the reason why Fisher wasn't recruiting by Michigan out of high school, its because he was a 230 pound linebacker who grew into a NFL body in collgee.

He played in the MAC which is D1 legit football. Hell they had a team in the Orange Bowl last year. So another strike.

Bottom line you opened your mouth and looked like a jackass, congratulations.

If you believe the mock drafts, most only have 2 QBs taken in the first. That means between Barkley, Manuel, Nassib, Glennon, Wilson, all or most of them will be available by Miami's 2A (which is the pick I would hope we get). They can get Miami's pick and stay put and still get a QB. I wouldn't be terribly upset if we landed on one of these guys.

You didn't watch a lot of A&M last year. Manziel took off on his own, not because the pocket was collapsing. Most of the time he had all day to sit in the pocket.

Just pointing this out, but that goes against what's been reported. The reports were that Miami could talk to his agent, but not to Albert himself, which prevents them from giving him a physical. Reid said that wasn't happening unless a trade was agreed to, similar to what's now happening with Revis.

If they had agreed to a trade, they would have no reason to prevent Albert from meeting with them. A contract's not getting done without that happening.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but it's also been reported that even though the story didn't come out until Thursday or so, Miami has been able to talk to Albert's agent for over a week now. Maybe there's a reason Reid said he thought the whole thing was a dead issue.

Time will prove it. Joeckel is by far the superior left tackle and its not even close. I guess I was wrong about Central Mich. With players named, I can't believe how I didn't realize Central Mich was such a powerhouse football factory. What a joke.

Andy Reid didn't cost the Chiefs any picks in trade(Herm) or for tampering(Vermiel).

That is the positive for the 2013 season.

What teams give players physicals without a contract agreement? I don't care what's been reported to be honest.

There are also a lot of reports that the Bucs have the parameters of a contract already worked out with Revis. The physical is the last step there.
