Looking at our roster of backup QB's doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Let's say Elvis gets creamed when someone misses a block and goes out for half the season.
What do we do? 1)Stick With Warren Moon and pray that no one misses another block 2)Give Collins the chance, even though he doesn't seem to want it by his preseason play, 3)Look and see if there are any overlooked gems in the NFL. What's your take? mmaddog ************ ------------------ "When you're not the lead dog in the pack, the view is always the same" |

We put all of our young players in and let them develop. Write of the 00 season and draft Drew Brees in 2001.

I’m still unsure about Brees. Isn’t it likely that he is entirely a product of [forgive me for saying this] “The System?”
xoxo~ gaz scouting for a new QBOTF, but shaky on Brees.<BR> |

I don't even think Moon is a logical choice. He isn't mobile at all, and it would only take one good shot and we are down to Ted White or Todd Collins. I was thinking of coming out of retirement myself. I may look like Jim Plunket throwing the ball, but I bet I could scramble better than most QB's. mmaddog ********** ------------------ "When you're not the lead dog in the pack, the view is always the same" |

There's also a possibility that Vick could jump to the NFL after this year.
According to NFLDraft.net's Mock Draft, right now they have those two going #1 and #2. Interesting to see they have us taking a RB... |

Vick seems to throw off the wrong foot way too many times, leaving his passes as underthrown and into the hands of the defender, or plain out there like a wounded duck.

mmaddog-
It’s possible that Moon could suffer an injury. That’s no reason to keep him off the field. Any player could suffer an injury. Moon’s age does not concern me all that much. He’s a grownup and can take the risk or not at his discretion. If he is willing to put his ribs on the line, I am willing to encourage him to do so. I believe he is the best backup QB we have on the roster. If we pick up an FA [maybe one of the “Billy Joe” twins will be available], then we can reevaluate. At this time, Moon is our best backup QB. And let’s assume the worst: Moon comes in and is injured. Then Collins takes over. And if Collins is injured, too… Well, how many NLF teams could prosper after losing all three QBs? If that happens, you consider it Divine Intervention and regroup for 2001. xoxo~ gaz going with the cream of a stunted crop. [This message has been edited by Gaz (edited 08-23-2000).] |

Brees would be a nice pickup for the Chiefs, but nothing that I would leverage my future on.
Concerning EG's back-up, I would go with Warren at this point. Collins looks like he has a horrible confidence problem right now. |

mmaddog -
What similarities do Brees and Leaf carry other than their skin color and playing position? |

Pat:
Brees and Leaf both have good arms but not a cents worth of game savvy. I would have to say that Brees is slightly better than Leaf, but not enough to make him MY first choice. I really don't see any outstanding QB's coming out of the draft this year. mmaddog *********** ------------------ "When you're not the lead dog in the pack, the view is always the same" |

I'm just putting my .02 forward for Quincy Carter (QB at UGA). I don't watch college ball very closely, but from what I have seen he is excellent, and would be my choice for a drafted QB. Vick could pass him, but as mmaddog said, he leaves to many passes floating up there which would be certain INTs. I think he'll get over that problem soon though.

Cormac:
Living here in SC I have seen a great deal of Carter, and you are right , he is good. But Georgia is the home of good RB's(trying to think of a couple, some guy Davis, I think)not QB's. I wonder if they will let him develop, or if all they will do is let him handoff left, handoff right. mmaddog ********** ------------------ "When you're not the lead dog in the pack, the view is always the same" |

Mark - I could be wrong, but I like Drew's field savvy. He is a 100% team player, very humble and a spectacular athelete. 2 of the 3 are not related to Leaf (betcha can guess which ones )
Brees reminds me a little of Brian Griese with a much better arm and a better runner. My $.02. pk |
