Ultra VNC - anything better?
I've been using Ultra VNC for years as a remote connection to computers. In the past I've created simple programs, for both business and personal, to allow others to connect to me so I can gain access to their system saving me precious travel time and costs.
I don't use it for business anymore since that job is gone, so now I mainly use it on my home network. It's main purpose now is to remote my HTPC. From my laptop across the room I easily operate it without needing a mouse or keyboard hooked to the system. I don't like using Windows RDP because it locks out the screen while the connection is active unlike VNC which gives you the choice to blank out the screen. I'm curious what everyone else uses. What program have you found the best features in to use as a remote connection? Thanks in advance |

I too use Ultra VNC. Back when I was looking for the best vnc, that's what I settled on.
I also use androidVnc from my phone.

Ultra VNC for me as well. Works well for what I need it...plus it's free. Another Android app is TeamViewer. Works really really well....but after installing it, you can only connect 1 device to a computer. I was thinking that TeamViewer (can use desktop as well) would replace Ultra VNC. So, I set up my laptop connections to my servers, then I was setting up a second computer with access when it denied it. Found out that if you want multiple connections, you have to pay for it.....and pay quite a bit. In the end, decided that cost wasn't worth doing the same thing that I could for free and stuck with Ultra VNC. I still use TeamViewer on my phone though so I always have access to my servers. |

Just switched to TeamViewer the other day, and it's far superior in terms of ease of use. The free version is indeed a little restricted, though.

Dameware is badass, we used to use that.
Now we've gone to Microsoft OCS (Office Communicator) corporate wide, and I must say... it's awesome. Anyone on our global network is available for instant chat/video conf/remote desktop at anytime. |
