People need to look at the Packers, and how they draft and deal with the offseason. They draft for the future. They let expensive vets go and fill with younger players from within. This is where Dorsey comes from and is his philosophy.

The Chiefs have no choice but to prepare for the future. Doesn't mean we are going full rebuild though.
It astonishing that people don't understand that you don't hand away 2 premium picks for a QB that you aren't willing to sign to a long term deal a year later.

It's the inconsistency of the moves from year to year that's unsettling

If they do choose to let smith walk, I wonder how people will feel about last offseasons plan?

Except the Chiefs aren't doing any of that. At all. Alex is their guy and they are going to give him a contract. The owner has spoken out in favor of it. The GM and coach love him.

He's their guy. Let's not get this confused

You think a 2cd year QB is going to take you deep in the playoffs or the SB? I sure don't. A 2cd year QB can win some games but he isn't going to take you where we want to go in his 2cd year.

Who was gonna play QB last year? It's clear Reid didn't like any QB in the draft, even to develop. Reid likes Smith, he said he'd thought about trading for him when he was in Philly. Reid wanted Smith and did what it took to get him. You need a QB. It might say win now, but it also is just a necessity. Dorsey drafted for the future last year, for Albert moving on, for Charles backup/replacement, and signed a ton of projects.

The only win now move was trading for Smith, but that was a coach who knew who he wanted and getting him. I still bet theydidn't see the success they had coming.

Smith is asking way too much money. He wants a top 5 qb salary, but he's not an elite qb. I'd rather the team be worse a year or two, than to risk losing multiple all pro caliber guys like berry, Houston and poe, for the sake of overpaying smith. Give one of the young guys a shot, simplify the offense, and let one of the best rb in the league do work, along with the promising knile Davis. 200 passing yards per game isn't worth 20 million a year. But I do agree, the chiefs would look like morons for letting smith walk after trading two 2nd rounder for him, though I'm sure they didn't foresee him wanting drew brees money.

Oh ok so you think that Johnny Manziel and Ray Farmer are lying in the media.
You don't think that if Condon/Smith is asking for 18mil+ a year that we might want to go another direction?

Unsettling?

We have two offseasons to draw from to establish a pattern.

The first offseason was, as Dorsey said, not the norm. "It won't be like this next year." So far he's true to his word.

Except they are.

If you want to have a guy be your long term answer, you don't go into a contract year. That's playing with fire.

If they really want the guy, sign him. Don't dick aroud with it.

Why? Again, this is Carl Peterson thinking.

Doesn't deserve top 10, let alone top 5 money.
