It's pretty much already a given that hes going to the Yankees.

He's not afraid to tell everyone how much of a fan of the Yankees he is and all of their shit contracts just retired. Imagine the ****ing numbers he'll put up in Yankee stadium with that RF wall.

Dear Jeff Bridich: Thank you.

5/$70 million for Ian !@#$ing Desmond - an older, shitter version of Randal Grichuk.

Oh, and he's going to be play 1b.

The Cards were reportedly hard-after the guy (for reasons that defy all logic). Fortunately the Rockies saved Mozeliak from himself. That has to be the worst contract that will be handed out this winter, right? Remarkable.

The fans won't like it, but would standing pat this offseason be the worst idea? I mean, they aren't catching the Cubs with a few slap dick cfers and 3rd baseman.

Get the payroll in order, improve the margins, hope guys within improve and throw money at a machado if he hits free agency

"improve the margins" - that's cute.

The Cardinals have been one of if not the most profitable teams in baseball over the last 5 years (due in no small part to the lack of debt service and relatively cheap stadium DeWitt snagged).

And with all that "Payroll Muscle" we've seen the club develop a skill for being the first in line with the next best offer.

They're not signing Machado or Harper and it doesn't matter how strong the margins are. DeWitt will just buy another summer home.

Ultimately I agree with you - no sense in throwing money at this team; it's not going to be a good team either way unless they get lucky and fall ass backwards into an undervalued asset. The problem is that the team doesn't appear to be looking for undervalued, they seem to be looking for expensive veteran mediocrity to ensure that Matheny will actually PLAY the guy.

It's just a shitty organization right now. Near as I can tell, the only thing they do correctly is nothing and then they even manage to **** that up. Dodging the Heyward bullet only to throw yourself in front of another slightly smaller bullet in Mike Leake is pretty much the best we can hope for from Mozeliak and crew right now.

So just pray that Flores really knows what he's doing and drafts his ass off because Luhnow's efforts are the only reason Mozeliak's ever won anything and Flores will be the only reason he wins anything going forward.

Well, that's what I'm saying (not very well I guess). Sign a bounce back option here or there or go get a real asset. Don't do this spend to show we can spend on a meh guy like Desmond.

In the end, similar to football, it's about the minor league draft and develop for cheap and have for long periods of time.

They don't have the farm depth to throw a big package at a guy, nor would it really help if they did.

The development stalled and the team stalled. Rebuild that.

I'm starting to get a little nervous that FAs actively do not want to play here due to Matheny.

If you're a bounce-back guy, why would you ever sign here? Matheny's pets aren't going to lose playing time to you. You'll get very little real opportunity to prove yourself absent an injury.

I also think this boy scout clubhouse environment would be genuinely irritating for a lot of players. Matheny's been in the league long enough that word is out on him. Guys have come and gone onto other organizations and you can bet your ass many of them have rolled their eyes over Mike Matheny's sewing club.

Want Lorenzo Cain? We'll take a high upside player no closer than 5.5 years to FA, with a lot of physical tools whether he can play or not, and 2 large combo pizzas from Imo's.

Bryce Denton work for ya? I expect you'd prefer Magneuris Sierra but I'm intrigued by having him, Perez and Sosa on the field at the same time in 5 years then watching a stiff breeze blow them all into the loge boxes.

Denton is presently struggling in rookie ball so the good news is that the odds suggest it will take him approximately infinity years to accumulate 6 years of major league service time.

Win/win.

Just host Dayton at a scout's day down in Jupiter. Run out your best athletes. Give him a stopwatch and provide a long jump track. You'll have a deal in no time flat.

Eaton just fetched Gioloto plus other prospects, which means the Cardinals would have needed Reyes plus change to get him.

If people want to sit here and lambaste Mozeliak for what happened last year in FA that's fine, but it's not like our choice, Justin Upton and his 1.4 WAR, was worth a damn either. Mike Leake was almost twice as valuable for less money, and I don't think we need to bring up Heyward again.

No need to panic or shit all over everything.

Then sell.

If you aren't as good as the guys that are out there making noise in the market, sell Matt Carpenter and wait until you think you might be.

Sitting here spinning your wheels isn't getting you anywhere either.
