Would the oline have been nearly as bad if Allen didn't get hurt and Stephenson didn't have some kind of weird mental issue?

Is the combo of bowe, Avant, DAT, Wilson, kelce, and Fasano really that bad? Smith's receiving options this year are miles better than last year.

I think Smith and Reid have more than a good enough team to work with. They are losing games because of bad playcalling and game management, and Alex Smith. Which is scary because these are the two pieces we can't fix. They are the reason we are losing. Yeah, Dorsey has made a few bad moves here and there, but he has on the whole built an excellent team around a coach and qb who can't take advantage of that talent.
Well, in a pass-happy league, and one where defense is all but illegal, we've managed to go more than a year w/o a TD to a WR.

I think you make some valid points, and we're stuck with Dorsey no matter what I think, so i hope he finds a WR with 30-foot arms because with Smith's accuracy, we're going to need WRs who can catch overthrown, underthrown, and and passes throw too far in front and behind for the normal mortal to catch.

Let's just hope I'm wrong and 4-5 world-class FAs come to KC for near the league minimum, all while they strike gold in the draft.

But I still think Hunt needs to make some ESPN and world headlines having set a new mark for how much a talent scout, and a whole group of them at that, can be paid.

I think we both understand that it's passing league and we have a QB who can't get the job done. And we have to build around that, unfortunately. Keep in mind that there is still a model out there for excellent defensive teams with outstanding running games even though it's a passing league. Seattle, the Giants, and San fran have seen super bowl like success with this approach.

We have no other option, do we? Why? Because our QB is a reeruned ****, and our coach is a lot slow on the uptake.

Yup. But here's why I disagree on the receiver piece. I do think with a healthy dj and berry, we are a piece away from having one of the best defenses in the league. So if I'm choosing between keeping Houston and Poe... Finding more playmakers on defense... Vs giving Alex Smith weapons he won't use, sadly I'd rather have a defense that carries Smith than a balanced team at this point.

If we improve on OL (and who knows if landing an orbiter on an asteroid after 10 years of flight isn't an easier task!), we replace Bowe with somebody who lives up to the hype he portrays, and we keep Smith (who should have seen the turf sooner), we're down to just the two reeruns - one at QB and the other at HC...

And I still hate the Hunts, you won't change that!

Our defense is ascending. A better OL will improve our run offense. I think there are lots of ways to build in spite of Reid and Smith. I just disagree with trying to put lipstick on a pig. A new receiver or pass pro OL isn't going to make Alex suddenly start throwing to his receivers. Maybe we can build a defense and running game that can carry Alex. It's sad we have to think that way, but I think we all realistically know Reid and Smith aren't going anywhere.
