OK, then here's a very simple solution....

Let Albert pay the entire season if you're worried about his back. Let him prove his health then. That completely eliminates the need to use a 1.1 pick on his replacement "Just in case"...

That's infinitely safer and smarter than replacing him with Joke Lueckel because the team has no other choice.

If you have an above average LT, then ****ing pay the man. Overpay him if you have to. It's just stupid to mortgage the future of the offensive line over the chance of saving a few million bucks. Because guess what, if you draft a LT at 1.1, he's going to eventually want a huge contract as well. Despite whether he's actually better than the guy he replaced. If you want quality stability at the LT position, it's going to cost you and rightly so. Why is it that people are willing to let Albert walk over a few million a year of Hunt's money, but yet wouldn't think twice about spending draft picks on the same position?

It's OK to pay your priority positions. There's lots of positions where you can fill at discount prices. But at LT, it's not worth the risk. Gambling that some unknown you draft will be sufficient is a huge risk. And at 1.1, it's just not worth it.

I'm going to tag this to one of my F keys and just repost this any time a ****ing moron thinks Albert is expendable and shouldn't be "overpaid"

So essentially they're trying to pick up Alex Smith for free. We trade a 2nd and a 2014 pick for Smith, then trade Albert for a 2nd and a 2014 pick and draft a cheaper, possibly as skilled player. The team stays the same as it was plus Alex Smith and minus no draft picks. That's probably what they're thinking...but what they're probably overlooking is that to draft Albert's replacement, you're basically losing.

Sure, you're gaining 2 picks to deal him, but you're losing the most valuable pick in the draft to replace him.

And if that's the case would they know another team would check it out and thus franchising him and trying to get a 2nd be pretty stupid?

I really don't believe they think the back is a problem or they would have just let him walk and maybe go after Long in FA.
