As far as other types of committment go, he was named the starter immediately, he's carrying himself in interviews as the unquestioned starter, and they're making him one of the faces of the franchise. I'd say it's pretty clear that they aren't treating him like a short-term fix.

Can't be 2 early 2cd round picks. If we suck that bad it will be a 3rd rounder.

My dad has them. He's petty sick right now so I would expect I'll go to most games this year. Not looking like he will make it to any

If they trade what yet did for Smith and move on from him before the second draft pick is even used....it if you think that's going to happen, you're crazy.

Also if you think things are bad here now, let that happen and see how it goes

I'm skeptical as to whether they could consistently win at a championship game level (conference or league) with him, but I think he could ride the team to wild card or division wins if everything is built strongly enough around him. That said, I don't expect we'd ever see anything like last offseason's performance by Flacco out of him, though.

Pretty damn close to my thoughts.

He might be able to win a playoff game with an elite defense, or just a ridiculously great defensive effort in one game.

He's not going to put a team on his back and carry them through the playoffs.

Alex Smith is like stopping at $10,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. The money is nice, but it's not life-changing.

That honestly, is my biggest problem here. You guys don't know shit about what Alex Smith can and cant do. This will be the first year that he will be given complete confidence, and control by his head coach. Every single head coach he has had, has been a run first coach. Hell, Jim Harbaugh, still ran the ball more than he threw with Kaepernick. And I keep hearing people say, if Alex is asked to throw more, hes going to fail. It depends on the throws. If he is still making the short throws that lead to Bowe, or Avery or a tight end, getting a first down, or making their own yards, why would he fail? He has proven to be very VERY good at that. You don't have the personnel to chuck it up all the time. he doesn't have Desean Jackson, and Jeremy Maclin to throw to.

That's why I have said over and over, I have no idea how this is going to pan out, but using anything from San Francisco, as a barometer of how he is going to do here, is stupid, and uninformed hypothetical boring bullshit.

Using what he, had actually done in his career is uninformed hypothetical boring bullshit?

No its facts. Thinking it will be any different would be hypothetical dude.

Facts are facts and by almost any measure Alex Smith is on par with Cassel in terms of production. He averages less than 200 yards a game.

He's been in the league eight years, make all the excuses you want but he's been middle of the pack.

I never said he wasn't. But it is awful hard to put up stellar numbers, when you hand the ball off more than you throw.

A prime example of that. Troy Aikman. Hes a hall of fame qb, who spent his career, handing off to Emmitt Smith. Now, obviously, I am not saying Alex Smith is as good as Troy, hes not, troy might of been the most accurate passer in the history of the NFL. What I am saying is, that your scheme, and coaching, sometimes dictates your stats. And it is why, I have never said that Alex is going to succeed or fail here, because I don't know. I don't know if he can handle passing more, I also don't know if Andy Reid will use him that way. So yes. To speculate on how playing for a different style of coach, and assuming that the results are going to be the same. Is useless.

COMPLETELY, USELESS.

If we are in win now mode, awesome I'm ready to win now.

But if that's the case, if you go win 6 games, it was a huge failure.

I don't think there is a person in the Chiefs organization from Clark hunt, to the ball boy, that thinks this is a 6 win team. I don't think there is a person in the Chiefs organization that would see this season as anything but a failure if they didn't make the playoffs.

Guaranteed.

Less than .500 this year is a failure IMO.
