bsp4444, what do you guys enjoy doing? How old are the kids? What's your price range?
Lots of golf, and TONS of minigolf. Best place in town is Mt. Atlanticus. Lots to eat, a lot of which is total crap. I can give you good places to go but need some direction. |

Not a golfer, but will definitely take the boy to mini golf (he's 4, and I just realized my daughter isn't going as she will be in Europe for an orchestra thing). We like to eat well when we vacation, so give me your best of the best and we'll sure give it a try. I like the nature, outdoorsy stuff (I htink we are chartering a fishing boat) and my wife likes musuems and things of the more cultured variety. O think I can talk her into one of those sea-doo tours, though. We are not partiers, pretty casual, laid-back folks just trying to forget about work for a week. I appreciate your help.

This is a pretty good overview of the area: http://www.discoversouthcarolina.com...nd-strand.aspx
Best place I've found to eat is Divine Prime. Pricy, but damn good. Fresh seafood, gotta go down to Murrell's Inlet or Georgetown. Lee's Inlet Kitchen is very good. Most of the pizza here sucks, but Mellow Mushroom is good. For just decent, everyday food, there's Mrs. Fish, River City Cafe, Gordon Biersch, Liberty Taproom... stay away from the big chains. Fun stuff with the munchkin: There's Ripley's Aquarium... the NASCAR Speedpark and Wild Water & Wheels. The Ripken Experience might be too old, but I'm not sure. If you're up for a drive, Charleston is 2 hours away... the Charleston Museum is quite good and Ft. Sumter. Just north of Charleston is Jack's Cosmic Dogs, which was featured on Feasting on Asphalt and is DAMN tasty hot dogs. Tons of shopping at the Tanger Outlets, Broadway at the Beach, the Market Common... Entertainment... Legends in Concert, Le Grande Cirque, Medieval Times (fun with kids especially), Carolina Opry, and the Dixie Stampede. Always Hard Rock Cafe and Pelicans Baseball (minor league team for the Braves). I haven't been but the sister-in-law and her husband loved Brookgreen Gardens, a sculpture garden/animal sanctuary. I'm not much of an outdoorsy type, so aside from the beaches and the Myrtle Beach State Park, I'm not much help there. |

While vacationing there we went to Medievil times. It was pretty fun and since there are only 9 of them in the US we thought it was something we couldnt pass up. Also there is a go-cart place I believe its called Nascart. Of course this was probably seven years ago so assuming its still around. Lot of fun go-carts for a pretty reasonable day-pass price.

I thought that might be it but I clicked the link and the website was down. So I thought maybe it actually was Nascar related. But that place was pretty sweet. I think the pass was maybe $20 and you got a bracelet for the day so you could come and go if you pleased. Considering other places charge $5-10 for one track and this place had about 8 different courses. Including an oval track that had the car body enclosing you.

Use sunblock your first day. You don't want to be suffering the rest of your trip.

That's all great stuff. I think I have more things to do than days of vacation. Thanks to everyone for their help.

I went to some interesting plantation tours outside Charleston when I was in that area. If you're a history buff, that stuff is kind of cool.
