What's Your Favorite Holiday Goodie?
My wife likes to make big plastic ziplock bags of Chex Mix and share it with the neighbors. She uses rice and corn chex, cheerios, pretzels, mixed nuts, lots of butter and seasoned salts, worchester-ester-ester (never could spell that stuff) sauce.

I like to make my Grandma's Lemon Cake. This desert is not flashy. In fact, it looks about as plain as a cake can look. But damn is it good. Lemon cake mix with lemon pudding mixed in, a little vanilla, then when you pull it out of the oven you poke holes with a fork all over the surface of the cake, the pour over a topping of powdered sugar blended with melted butter and real lemon concentrated lemon juice. You pour this mixture over, it soaks into the cake, then you put a lid on the pan and it cool. Serve this up with a big cold glass of milk, and I'm telling you, you've never had a better dessert cake. It's fabulous.

I just made one this afternoon while the Colts/Ravens game was on in the background. Taking it to family gathering tomorrow in Olathe. Yummy.

I also like to have spiced apple rings, cranberry sauce and those chocolate marshmallow pinwheel cookies with a hole in the center. My dad loved all that stuff back in the day, and DARK chocolate covered cherries for New Years week.

My grandma makes an apple-walnut ring cake every year for Christmas. I always think I'll skip on it, but end up grabbing a piece and I really do like it.

I'll be sent home with a pound of fudge from my family and my wife's. Too damn much, but you can't say no. My aunt will make some homemade chocolate chip cookies and send those home as well. Those are my real favorite.

God bless my late dear German grandmother who would make between 500-700 Christmas cookies. Crispy Chocolate chip, crispy thin sugar cookies, butter cookies with a dollop of raspberry in the center but the BEST by far were her walnut balls with powdered sugar. I would eat these by the boatload and not sure why people don't have them during the year. YUM!
