Generic Cables and Apple?
I charge my work iPhone 5 via a generic (non-Apple) USB cable plugged into my docking thing for my laptop. It's worked fine for a few months but I noticed a few days ago that it wasn't charging. I looked at the phone and it said something like "the cable connected isn't recognized and may not work properly."

Are they ****ing kidding? You MUST use an Apple USB cable?

I have an iPhone 4s and charge it sometimes with a generic iPod cable. It doesn't say it's charging when I do that but it still charges.

After more research, it looks like this happens in iOS 7 only. Apple apparently has some circuitry built-in to their cables (or certified 3rd party). Unacceptable, if true.

My Dad has this pop up occasionally on his Iphone 5. He just ignores the message and his phone charges anyway. He did say that from what he read on apple forums and such that the cables charge fine, but sometimes the phone will not allow data transfers if you use the generic cable.

FWiW, I have a Samsung Galaxy and always charged the original battery with a generic USB cord. The battery finally went dead and I wasn't ready to replace the phone so I bought a $10 knock-off replacement battery. The battery would not charge with the generic cord. I found my original cord, and it charged fine, but with generic that worked fine with the original battery, nothing. ****ing things

Its happened before IOS 7 as well. I have a ****ton of generic chargers i bought, cause i kept ruining them.

I had to buy a Belkin Charger. They go for like30 bucks on apples site, but on amazon they are 9 bucks.

It was actually 5.99, but now they are 12 bucks it seems.
