****Official 2009 Free Agent Signing Thread****

Better to put them all in one place, than to have a new thread (or three) started every time a guy signs.

There's no way I can keep this thing updated and keep the mock draft running, all while handling schoolwork and life in general.

Plus, people are starting new threads anyway, so I'm really wasting my time.

If you want to see an updated list, try this link:

Mr. Pioli, could you pretty pretty please at least bring a player in. It would be nice to hear or anything going on linking the Chiefs to free agency. I know that the Chiefs are on information lockdown these days, but anytime now would be a good time to starting improving our awful roster or at minimum meeting with free agents.

Free-agency update: Denver staying busy

February 27, 2009 1:53 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson

The first hours of free agency are cranking hot and heavy. But the AFC West has been fairly quiet.

Most of the news is coming out of Denver where the Broncos are looking to add new pieces to the puzzle -- not major pieces here, more like complementary pieces.

Receiver Jabar Gaffney is visiting Denver. He played for new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels in New England. He would be a fourth receiver behind Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal and Brandon Stokley.

The team is also hosting running backs Correll Buckhalter and J.J. Arrington, who would both will be role players. Miami safety Renaldo Hill is also visiting. All of these players could sign with Denver soon. Denver needs safety help and the steady Hill would be a good start.

Meanwhile, in San Diego, there are rumblings the Chargers may bring back Drayton Florence. He went to Jacksonville as a free agent last season but he was recently cut. Florence has already visited Buffalo. He'd be a role player in San Diego.

There was some talk that Kansas City could get involved with linebacker Bart Scott but he has already agreed to terms with the Jets. The Chiefs, as they have been in every aspect of their operations this offseason, have been quiet in the early hours of free agency despite having more than $50 million in salary-cap room.

Here's a name to keep an eye on in Denver: Marques Douglas. The defensive end was just cut by Baltimore. He played for new Denver defensive coordinator Mike Nolan in both Baltimore and San Francisco. The Broncos have a need for a player such as Douglas. This could be a perfect fit. Nolan is also trying to get defensive tackle Ronnie Fields, who played for him in San Francisco.

Signing players who are familiar with Nolan's system will be important as Denver transitions to becoming a 3-4 defense.

Chiefs, Patriots nearing trade for Vrabel
Posted: February 27th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Kansas City Chiefs, Mike Vrabel, New England Patriots

New England’s Pro Bowl linebacker Mike Vrabel is in Kansas City undergoing a physical so that he can then be traded to the Chiefs. General Manager Scott Pioli is reaching out to bring in a player familiar with his system, and New England is a willing trade partner.

Bart Scott-LB- Ravens Feb. 27 - 2:57 pm et

Bart Scott reportedly is going to give the Ravens a chance to match the Jets' five-year, $40 million contract offer.
In an effort to break the story, many national sources said the deal was officially agreed to. But it was never signed and it now appears Scott is having second thoughts and wants to give Baltimore another shot. We don't see why Baltimore wouldn't match now, but it's no lock. We'll find out shortly.

How many effective years does he have left? 3, maybe 4? Can a LB be effective at 38 years old? They keep saying he fits Pioli's system, so I take it this means we're gonna be a 3-4 team? Does this mean we take Curry in the 1st round if Stafford isn't there?

Honestly IMO, I think Vrabel has 2 good years left, where he will be productive. I watched vrabel a lot last year, so this is an honest assement.

Mike Vrabel eh? I guess that is a good signing. A slight upgrade over the current LBs.
