Stopping the run will be key to this game

It is every game but a gimpy Manning that has been beat up lately leads to them running more to control our pass rush. We got gashed in Buffalo so it makes sense. Stuff them and it will play into our hands.

I know he's not a WR, but Vernon Davis had some monster games with Alex as QB.

Does it matter? How is this relevant to the game.

Clay is trying to slant the conversation a bit in his favor by saying his entire opinion of Smith will be entirely vindicated by him struggling against "elite QB/WR combos," because Smith "always" does.

No ****ing shit. He's a #2 CB. Find me one #2 CB in the goddamn league that doesn't, troll.

Smith is what I said he was the day we brought him in: incredible measurables, and inconsistent play -- he will play like a #1 CB when he shows up, and a pretty bad CB when he doesn't. He has #1 CB ability, however, when he's on.

He's been on almost all season, but let up as the bye week drew near and we faced a cavalcade of shit QBs. That's natural in general, but Smith can take it to extremes. I watched him a lot in Miami.

If you asked me, Smith is clearly going to show up tomorrow. But I'd expect a letdown from him, along with the rest of our team, next week against the Chargers, as tomorrow's game is bound to be very emotional, with another Manning game right around the corner.

If you get Smith to show up, he's #1 CB material.

So he took two seasons off, or what?

The guy was a liability in Miami the last two seasons.

Maybe having Al Harris as a coach is what he needed, because I'd say he's been anything but a liability thus far with the Chiefs.

He was off far more than he was on in Miami recently, but I think that has a lot to do with coaching...

He was a weapon when he was on, as we saw in the first five or so games of this year.

But then we faced some combination of Keenum, Campbell, Tuel and other douchenozzles, and he let down. Got burnt like a torch, too, against the only elite WR he was asked to cover in that stretch in that kid from the Browns.

Despite what you say, when you watch the guy play, he's just got incredible tools. He's quick twitch, flips his hips great, reads the QB well and contests any pass he's in the vicinity for. I was in love with him coming out of Utah, where he played safety -- he definitely projected to CB in the NFL, just like I thought Eric Berry did. His biggest problem, even when he's on, is his recovery speed when he's beat. His motor just isn't on a level with Flowers'; when he's beat, he's beat like a drum.

Systems and coaching shouldn't matter. Good players play good.
