PFF Rates Flowers #1 NFL CB Through Week 6

... and Reid says scheme fit wasnt the biggest reason he was let go. He did say he was happy to see him doing well and I can agree with that, I never had a problem with Flowers outside of my, apparently somewhat wrong, belief that he was a bad scheme fit.

There isnt much other Chiefs discussion going on, so heres something else to get mad at each other about...

I'm still not really clear as to why we didn't trade him. Common sense dictates it would have been a better move for us being able to get something from him and controlling where he goes.

Nobody would trade for him at that salary.

SD gives up 4.7ypa and we give up 4.8 ypa on the ground. No major difference.

The big difference is they are +7 in TO and we are -3.

The big difference is they utilize their best players at every opportunity and we don't.

How a player ends up performing on a new team is somewhat irrelevant. The issue is whether he was a good player in KC. If you spend the draft pick, time, money and effort developing a good player, then it sucks to lose him because you just have to use those same exact resources to replace him and hope to get the same or better production. You are always better off keeping the guy you developed.

It also helps that we don't have Lewis back there. Last year you had a 50/50 shot at completing anything deep over the middle...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

He had one bad year, in which he was hampered with a lower leg injury and everyone threw him on the garbage pile. Many saying he was never that good to begin with. That's CP for you.

That's why I go into the berry bashing thread and say "This is why we can't have nice things".

Not that we could use a good CB. Cooper is pretty awesome right? Derp.

IMO, it was purely a cap move and I can understand that. I guess. It's sure better than the 'well, he's not that good anyway' dumbasses.

Indeed. He's a solid starter. That's it.

Frankly, given how absolutely atrocious he was for the first season and a half, I never expected him to be that good.

I completely disagree.

Many times a player you have drafted and developed begins to decline in performance as age and injuries begin to take their toll. If the defensive scheme changes that no longer matches the players skill set, why try to put a square peg in a round hole? Add in a bloated salary that no longer makes sense and you have a perfect recipe to find a new buck to groom at a much better price and health!

Flowers was a good example of this......

It is simply a matter of is he worth $10MM this season over Cooper and the answer is no.

Our overall pass defense is improved from last year when we had Flowers. Could it be even better with him this year instead of Cooper? Most likely except Flowers is hurt, again, and it's not a $10MM upgrade.

Flowers played like shit last year for the most part. That, along with his high salary and oh look, he has another nagging injury, are the reasons he's gone.

CP just has a huge hard on for harping on guys for shit that 1)they don't even know what the **** they're talking about and 2)doesn't even make sense.

"He's too small and slow!" Uhh, then how was he performing like one of the best CBS in the league?
