Exactly. So then, why are you making a big fuss out of the Rooney Rule? Teams today are going to hire the best candidate regardless of who they interview or what color they are today too.

Because its stupid that they have to interview a black person, and there's no rule saying they have to interview a white or any other race. They could make the rule less racist. And now they are talking about changing the rule because not enough black people are getting hired for HC.

Nobody is forced to do anything, except that NFL teams are asked to spend a few extra hours of their time to interview an extra candidate. That's it. People need to stop with the characterization that this process is any way unfair to anybody.
oh please ... if the Rooney Rule said teams had to interview a white candidate the lawsuit would already be heading towards the Supreme Court. Followed by a 100 billion dollar lawsuit, picket lines at every game. Billion man march ... riots in most NFL cities ... Congress hearing every day.

The only reason it's no big deal is because it's ok to make racist rules in favor of people with dark skin.

If it gives some minority candidates a chance to go through the process and have a chance to blow somebody away, what's the harm?

There isn't any harm, until the league sees that it isn't achieving the desired result. They will tweak it until they get what they want.

I don't have a problem with the Rooney rule. Like Chiefzilla said, it's not really causing any harm. So what if a team has to interview one more guy?

The story is that Mike Tomlin first got on everybody's radar as a potential head coach because of the Rooney rule. I don't know if that's true or not, but I see how it's possible.

I have heard some dumbasses on talk radio propose their solutions to force diversity on the NFL, the worst of which was to require NFL teams to hire someone of a different race every time they hire a new head coach. If you fire a white head coach, your next head coach must be black, Asian, or Hispanic.

The dumbassery of some people has no bounds.

Again, if the process doesn't create an unfair advantage toward getting a position, who cares? No white person is getting less of an opportunity to get a job because of the Rooney Rule. The only time that happens is when a black person who deserves the job beats out a white candidate in a fair interview process.

Much ado about nothing. We are talking about a few hours of inconvenience (and it's not even an inconvenience for good teams, who don't mind a thorough interview process anyway). I really could care less about racial sensitivity. I care if any race is getting an unfair advantage, and they are not.

NFL clearly needs a "Peyton Hillis Rule" to address the lack of white RB's.
