PFF Jets-Chiefs review

Quarterback grade: Alex Smith, 82.5
Quote:
It was the typical “Alex Smith, game manager” game as he was able to connect on just one pass over 10 yards — he gained just 17 yards on 3 targets between 10 and 19 yards and missed on all three passes over 20 yards. The Jets left the middle of the field underneath open and Smith was incredibly efficient, going 12-of-12 for 162 yards and 1 TD when targeting that area. When kept clean, Smith was deadly, completing 22-of-25 for 211 yards and 1 TD.

Top offensive grades:
Quote:
QB Alex Smith, 82.5
TE Travis Kelce, 81.5
RT Mitchell Schwartz, 74.6
WR Chris Conley, 71.7
C Mitch Morse, 68.1

Offensive line roughed up despite win
Quote:

The notion that games are won in trenches didn’t hold true in this game, as the Chiefs’ offensive line was dominated all game long against the strong Jets front. RT Mitchell Schwartz was the lone bright spot on the line as Schwartz allowed just 1 pressure all game while holding his own as a run blocker. LT Eric Fisher (35.8) struggled to block do-everything-man DE Sheldon Richardson as he allowed a sack, a hit and a hurry.

Top defensive grades:
Quote:

ILB Derrick Johnson, 95.7
CB Marcus Peters, 87.5
S Eric Berry, 85.3
S Daniel Sorensen, 83.2
DT Dontari Poe, 80.9

Derrick Johnson leads a strong defense
Quote:

One of the Chiefs’ veteran re-signings this offseason, Derrick Johnson repaid Kansas City’s investment in him with an excellent performance against the Jets. He nabbed one of Ryan Fitzpatrick’s many interceptions, returning it for a touchdown, and forced another by undercutting a slant in the red zone and popping it up to a teammate. He led the team with five defensive stops (no other Chief had more than two) and 10 total tackles. Johnson surrendered just 20 yards from seven targets, showing that he’s one of the league’s few linebackers who seems to have little trouble holding up in man coverage against running backs.

Week 3 Player rankings:

Quote:
Alex Smith - 15th of 36 QBs

Spencer Ware - 20th of 54 RBs

Eric Fisher - 28th of 73 OTs
Mitch Schwartz - 26th

LDT - 19th of 71 OGs
Fulton - 27th
Jordan Devey - 70th

Mitch Morse - 28th of 34 Cs

Marcus Peters - 7th of 104 CBs
Steven Nelson - 52nd
Phillip Gaines - 88th

Eric Berry - 19th of 80 Ss
Ron Parker - 20th

Derrick Johnson - 13th of 80 LBs
Justin March - 66th

Dontari Poe - 11th of 115 DL
Allen Bailey - 75th
Jaye Howard - 108th

Tamba Hali - 7th of 96 EDs
Dee Ford - 57th
Frank Zombo - 81st

How about we just have Wilson and DAT switch places. I think I'd like to give that a shot for a few weeks. At least DAT looked like he's was giving a shit out there during preseason.

The Texans and Jets have Top 5 defensive lines in the AFC, if not Top 3 (along with the Chiefs).

Fisher's done much better this year against the competition than last year and he's certainly played much better than Schwartz.

If Schwartz continues to struggle, I'll start referring to him as Schartz, which is an apt description of his play this season.

Hell, I'd rather see Robinson out there before Wilson.

Wilson is pure garbage.

I think most Chiefs fans agree that Wilson is garbage. What I don't understand is why the coaches still have him as the 3rd option at WR. WTF do they see in him?

Heh. Yeah, Schwartz has been a bit of an enigma so far. Maybe it's the fact he's had three different guys at guard next to him in three games? He feels like he has to cover for them as well? Not sure what the deal with him is.

Absolutely. DAT, Robertson, Rausch, Milkman....anybody but Wilson at this point.

I'll cut Maclin a bit of slack. One of those looked to be a great play by the DB. The other one was just a drop. Too bad because that would have been a big play.

Smith really only had one bad pass (overthrew wide open Conley - also would have been a big play) that I can recall.

No.

Have you taken a look at the abortion of Round 1 (or 2 or 3) of the 2013 draft?

Its too painful. (I will though , at some point)

Once in my lifetime that I can remember we get 1.1

and not only is it a weak draft class but so far we pretty much whiffed on the pick....

Maybe thats too harsh...but its frustrating as **** knowing we had the 1.1 and didn't hit on it

We got a more than adequate LT and an All-Pro TE. Just pretend Kelce was the pick st 1.1, and Fisher was the 3rd. We did just fine.
