The whole point of fighting is for me to hit YOU before you hit me or to hit you MORE than you hit me. Any 2 morons can stand toe to toe and throw haymakers all night. It takes more of a technician to do what Machida does and has been doing. I looked back at that fight and there didn't appear to be one single punch landed in over 3 minutes of round 1 but it was JUST as much Evans fault as Machida's. Something I haven't seen discussed on here (I could have missed it) is/was Machida's SPEED. That dude is very fast and quick on his feet and that has always been the big hype about Evans. I doubt Evans was scared but it appeared that way...he new he for the first time in a while he was in against a guy who was just as fast if not faster than him. I have watched the last several fights Machida had and he is as highly skilled a fighter as I have ever watched. Yeah, anyone can get caught, but this guy is going to pose a unique and difficult challenge to anyone.

So true. And, he has those oddball combo's plus he is just as good in traditional stance. He switched it up a bit just before he KO'd him.

I've been a big Machida fan for a while now, but even I didn't expect him to take Rashad apart quite like that. The guy seems to improve by leaps and bounds every fight.
I don't see how anyone can call his style boring now, with a straight face. |

It's not boring if you like Machida. If he would just stand there and fight he would get his ass kicked. I understand it's his style but I don't like it. With the exception of his last two fights which have been entertaining he is a boring fighter.

You are not supposed to just stand there and let your opponent hit you. If every fighter could fight the way he does, they would. It's absurd.

I like how he's a boring fighter, except for his last two fights. Which weren't boring. But he's a boring fighter. Who has good fights. But he's boring. Damnit.

He stood there and fought with Rashad and KTFO'd him. He was the aggressor in every exchange, was aggressive, and finished. People who don't respect Machida or his style and call it "boring" just don't understand MMA. |

And in fairness here it's not like Machida is unbeatable, Tito Ortiz worked him in the clinch when they got to the 3rd round that he had no answer for other than to grab the fence. Twice in the fight Tito pulled guard and Machida didn't have much to offer on top. Of course the second time Tito probably would have submitted him if they weren't so slippery. Also Machida looked to be getting pretty tired for a guy who wasn't doing all that much so he must tire himself out with all his movement. He doesn't appear to be in particularly great shape, he's doughy and small of a LHW. |

The era of Machida has officially begun. Rashad was the best matchup for him and look how that turned out. If Shogun gets back to Pride form then maybe he can give Lyoto a fight, but until that happens NO ONE will touch Machida. Rampage, Griffin, Cain, Evans, Jardine don't stand a chance against this guy.
He is the MMA equivalent to Floyd Mayweather, he doesn't get hit and picks you apart. If he can get the KO then he does it, but you will get outpointed otherwise. I think he will hold and defend the title for years to come. |

I've said some bad things about Machidas fighting style in the past, that it was boring and his 'elusiveness' made him boring to watch, but that was a hell of a show. I was wrong I guess, looking forward to see him defend that title.

I can't figure who they'll put him against next, probably Rampage. That could be interesting.
