@jessenewell: Asked Self in a.m. if zone could help w/o Embiid. Said team had other rim-protectors and still thought his players could guard better in man

Self is stubborn as hell.

Although...

@jessenewell: Self didn't rule out junk defenses vs. certain matchups in NCAAs. KU actually played that a couple possessions vs. WVU.

@jessenewell: KU has played 3-2 zone briefly this year. Wonder if that would help KU avoid fouls ... its biggest issue with Embiid out.

I think Self isn't going to start hitting the panic button, which would tell his team he has no faith in them.

Remember that this team was supposed to be a final four squad BEFORE anyone realized Embiid was a hell demon of destruction.

We should be fine.

It would have come down to guard play either way.

Perry and Tharpe are bad defenders, and frankly Selden wasn't very good getting out on shooters. The only two A-grade defenders we have are the two stars and if one doesn't play, we're pretty pedestrian defensively. So unlike Self teams. Even the 2011 team with the Morrii were excellent defensively and those guys didn't exactly bust their ass on the defensive end.

KCTV5 didn't say where the stress fracture is. Vertebral body or transverse process or facet joint?

There are some pretty accomplished spine folks here in the Midwest. I figured something was amiss when the reports surfaced of him going to CA for a second opinion.

That really sucks for him and the other guys who won't be around next year... I guess it's better than finding out next weekend, so they have extra time to prepare plus hopefully a couple of games.
