I dont follow closely to Star Wars, though I like the movies and have seen them all.

Is there a backstory to this? What does this scene mean?

I was confused too... but if you read the comments on the video, apparently this was a scene that everybody claimed didn't exist. It's supposed to represent the final step of becoming a Jedi, I guess. If that is true, I wonder why Lucas left it out of the film to begin with. Who knows.

In 'Shadows of the Empire' Luke builds his LS in Ben's old house with some equipment Ben had. This book obviously takes place before ROTJ, but it's the events right before they rescue Solo. Interesting. I never knew about this and I think it would have made the movie better. It's still too bad they didn't use Wookies instead of Ewoks. I still like it though.

Probably, to give an air of mystery to what Luke was like as a Jedi. Then here comes his introduction by using the Jedi mind trick, and Pwning everyone on the plank when R2 shot the green light saber to Luke.

Well remember too that the film was originally called 'Revenge of the Jedi'. Even to the point that there were posters for it. Lucas decided that Jedi would never seek revenge and the name was changed.
